Your brother sounds like a bad ass. Selling everything and moving to Alaska has been a wet dream of mine for a few years. But the reality is, I think Alaska would eat me alive.

You know, I was thinking about this a few years ago. I wonder if, instead of telling everyone their name, the media made up some undesirable nickname. Like gambling unicorn. Then when referring to him on the news we use that name instead. This way, no one ever has to know his real name. I believe they feel they are going down in infamy. By not spreading their name, and not telling their story, you erase what they are trying to achieve.

He claims he shot a bear with that rifle, the only animal he ever shot, when the bear came wandering into his camp and posed a threat to his life. Maybe it's true, maybe it ain't, but I tell you what; I've witnessed some goofy ass shit happen to my brother and he ain't one to tell tall tales, so I believe him. If you ever met him and spent a few hours with him, you'd be like, Yeah, that happened to Larry. He's just one of those people that crazy shit happens to. Back in his day he would've been a YouTube superstar.
If the media was doing its job by being unbiased and impartial, it would call all those assholes out by name. If the Supreme Court was honest it wouldn't allow media conglomerates to exist because they are clearly a violation of anti-trust laws. How can you have unbiased media when corporations control the news? Where is the 1st Amendment in that recipe, and why don't more Americans (or anyone, anywhere) object to the status quo? Don't rely on the media to answer that question.

However, the honest media are micro-examining Donald Trump. In a perfect world his election would be vacated, despite all the stupid fucks that still support/defend him. Embarrassing. Let's build a wall between all those stupid fuckers and the intelligent people. I bet Mexicans would contribute their tax dollars to that cause. lol

Per your (dictionary) definition of assault weapon, most would be banned. See?

I've heard pro-gun people say you need a gun to defend yourself but you don't need a gun to hurt people
If you can hurt somebody without a gun why would you need a gun to defend yourself?

Lol, yes, that's why I said most. Seriously though, that completely nullifies your argument for it being the best weapon for home defense.

Well, the most obvious would be, say a 120 lb female vs a 250 lb male attacker.

I fail to see what the motivation is for people wanting firearm bans. Is it fear for their life? It can't be to save human lives because if that is the impetus we would be better off focusing on the true mass murder causes: Fast food joints and cigarette. In 2016, there were what? 13-14,000 murders where firearms were used (ignoring suicides where firearms accounted for 17,000 of the 42,000 that happened in 2016) in the same year 1.5 million people died from diseases caused almost entirely from obesity and smoking. Not kind of attributable but as a direct result of eating crappy and smoking which usually go hand in hand. Hell not wearing a seat belt and texting while driving killed more people than guns.

To answer a question JScribe had; estimates are 330 million to 660 million guns in the US, although the higher number is probably a better estimate because there were millions of guns produced before manufacturing and sales data started to be collected.

These guns are owned by 1/3 of the population. In a 2015 or 16 survey of the remaining 2/3rds that don't one currently 52% said they could see buying one in the future and 48% said they would never own one. So in a vote on infringing on a right (depends on your slant towards the 2nd Amendment but I tend to side with the Supreme Court on it) it would all come down to the 1/3 that said they might own one at some point. Even then most guns laws would be overturned by the Supreme Court since guns are clearly a Constitutional discussion.

Some people just win the genetic lottery. A guy i went to college with, when i shook his hand. My hand didn't make it even half way around his hand. It was like a gorilla holding an infants hand.

Im sure I could kick him in the balls but he could likely tear my head clean off. I can hurt him, but i couldn't stop him if I wanted/needed to without a weapon. The weapon of choice would be a firearm because if i get close enough for him to take whatever non-firearm weapon from me, its over.

Same here. Thanks for the conversation gents.

Except that they used the information that they had on hand which was people that had voted before. They didn't count for the people that had never voted, which was a large part of Drumpf's voters because no one could account for them by polling current voters. And, in truth, if there was no Electoral College, Shillary would've won by over 2 million votes.

They sucked at their job if they didn't take all factors into consideration.

And in truth, there is an Electoral College, and as much as the losing side hates it, it's nothing new and serves a greater purpose. Especially when 20% of the popular vote Hillary received came from 2 states.

Since this thread has veered off topic, I'll take my leave of it.

Gotcha. So they needed a crystal ball then.

Sorry. I'm for 1 vote = 1 vote not 1 vote = x# of votes like the Electoral College enables.

A culture that promotes and fetishes gun ownership and makes every Tom, Dick and Harry not only want a gun, but believe that it is their fundamental right to own a gun.

A majority of the civilised world lives happily without guns, most without ever even wanting a gun. There is just absolutely no reason for average people to own guns. All of the pro-gun arguments such as "we need to protect ourselves from bad guys" or "we have to protect ourselves from a dictatorial, rogue Government" make absolutely no sense because again, a majority of the world carries ion fine without guns.
