With hurricane Irma bearing down on the Gulf Coast of Florida over the weekend, I can only offer you well wishes to you and yours for your safety and welfare. As I type this, Irma is ravishing the north coast of Cuba at this hour. Hopefully it will take some punch out of a storm that has already clobbered everything in it's path. The impact on the storm in the Virgin Islands and the northern Lesser Antilles has been already been devastating. A few minutes of this video from St. Thomas gives a taste of what you could be in for.

My brother lives right in the path of this monster, in Port Charlotte, FL. As I said to him earlier, take care folks and good luck to you if you find you can't evacuate.

I've witnessed first hand the destruction of tornadoes and have felt 100 mph gusts of wind, but to ride out sustained winds of 175 mph for hours would be crazy. You'd just waiting for your shelter to fly apart, and you with it.

No flooding for me....just a neighbor's 42 inch oak tree smashed my fence and 12 x 16 foot utility shed I just designed and built this last May.

Today my in-laws, who are in their mid-90's, have been without electric power for a week. We bring them over to our home almost daily for a break from the 90 degree heat and 90+ relative humidity. This is a strain on all of us.

I admire your resolve and generosity.

Sorry about the property damage. :( I must say I was flabbergasted to see all the images of giant live oaks and banyan trees toppled like bowling pins. Unbelievable.
