My spin:
Can anyone slow down the Brooklyn Decker freight train? That’s not looking easy right now, as evidenced by Brooklyn’s latest thrashing of supermodel Carol Alt. Carol barely managed to break 20% of the vote, and Brooklyn moves on easily.

Brooklyn will face off against one of the surprises of the 2014 tournament, still-unbeaten Hilary Rhoda. Hilary got her fifth win cruising to victory over fellow Cinderella candidate Melissa Baker. Melissa did well to win Group 39, but her road ends in her first Knockout Stage match.

My spin:
Irina Shayk’s tournament was in serious jeopardy in the Group Stage after she had lost to Jeisa Chiminazzo. She rebounded to win the rest of her matches, Jeisa tripped up thanks to Lucia Dvorska, and Irina won the group after all. Now, she looks like none of that ever happened. Irina advanced to the final 32 models with a surprisingly lopsided win over Jessica Perez.

In the other match, surprisingly unbeaten Julie Ordon finally met her match in the form of redheaded Brazilian Cintia Dicker. Cintia prevailed to stay unbeaten herself and will move on to a showdown against Irina.

Cintia's one of my all-time top 5, so I'm hoping she can overcome the more popular Irina.

 

I didn't like Cintia at first, but she seriously grew on me. So, I can see the appeal.

My spin:
Kate Bock had entered her match against Nina Agdal undefeated, but she was thoroughly beaten by Nina and couldn’t even get to 20% of the vote. Nina is looking like one of the favorites in the 2014 tournament.

In the other match, Kate the Great had a tougher challenge from the underrated Melissa Haro, but she survived and will advance to the Third Round.

So, that sets up another huge showdown: Nina vs. Kate, which is a rematch from the 2013 tournament. Nina surprised many and won that one, but what will happen this year? Winner moves on to the Sexy Sixteen. Loser goes home. It should be epic!

My spin:
Both top-25 models lost their matches today, as Anne V was upended by rookie Hannah Ferguson, and Stacey Williams lost - somewhat expectedly - to Josie Maran. Hannah joins Sara Sampaio and Emily Ratajkowski, as three rookies have made the final 32. Bregje Heinen could make it four, but she is an underdog in her match ending today against Alyssa Miller.

So, it’s Hannah vs. Josie in the next round. It should be a competitive match.

My spin:
Chandra North gave #2 Kathy Ireland all she could handle, but Kathy survived and advanced. Alyssa Miller beat rookie Bregje Heinen and will be a very worthy opponent for Kathy. I think Alyssa has what it takes to pull off the upset.

My spin:
Only 32 models were left entering the Third Round, and every match is getting more difficult to predict. In both of today’s matches, the favorite won, but it was certainly not easy!

Our top seed, Elle Macpherson had a challenge from fellow supermodel Cindy Crawford, but Elle prevailed and ended up with over 60% of the vote.

In the other match, #9 Veronica Varekova got all she could handle, and then some, from current SI model Natasha Barnard. Natasha had a great tournament, winning 5 matches including impressively easy wins over Rachel Hunter and Isabeli Fontana. But, in the end, she was narrowly defeated by the Czech beauty, Veronica.

So, our first Sexy Sixteen match is set: Elle Macpherson vs. Veronica Varekova. I think Elle goes into it as the favorite, but it should be a close one!

If I remember correctly, didn't Nina and Kate face off last year? And I'm pretty sure I fully expected Kate to blow Nina out of the water, only for Nina to pull off an "upset" win, surprisingly me completely. I'm the (increasingly) rare guy around here who loves both ladies, and really kinda wished they could both win - or at least progress further. There's no wrong answer in that matchup, but I'll feel bad for whoever has to go home too early.

In the other matchup, I'm 110% behind Cintia Dicker, but I'm thinking Irina takes it. Oh well...

My spin:
Angela Lindvall’s 2014 tournament started off terribly, as she only got 31% of the vote in her first Group Stage match against Zoe Duchesne. But, from there, Angela was on fire in the rest of the Group Stage, with easy wins over Carre Otis, Juliana Martins, and Maria Von Hartz. That enabled her to win Group 46, and her win over #18 Vendela Kirsebom in the Second Round of the Knockout Stage shockingly got her to this point.

Now, Angela’s magic carpet ride has come to a sudden halt.

Petra Nemcova obliterated Angela in this match, getting more than 86% of the vote and putting her stake in the ground as one of the favorites still remaining.

Petra will face fellow Czech beauty Daniela Pestova in the Sexy Sixteen. Daniela had a hard-fought win over sultry Canadian Kim Cloutier. Kim had a surprisingly great run in the 2013 tournament, and she followed that up with another great effort in 2014. Despite her “one hit wonder” status, Kim’s performances have proven that she is a very good SI model and can put a scare into any of the elite ones.

It’ll be two Czech stunners in the Sexy Sixteen: Petra Nemcova and Daniela Pestova. The winner will play the winner of Elle Macpherson and Veronica Varekova. Yes, three of the four models still remaining in the Jule Campbell Region of the bracket are from the Czech Republic! It’s a pretty small country geographically, but it’s home to some of the most beautiful women on Earth… as well as some great beer (Pilsner Urquell) and food (Czech dumplings).
