  3. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Ultimately, it's a shitty task picking image hosts:

    1. Has to be ok with "adult" content (obviously a dealbreaker)
    2. No overly-intrusive ads, interstitials, or malware to burden the user.
    3. No fees/subscription for the person posting
    4. Has to be reliable in the network-sense (ex. shouldn't go offline for days at a time or have persistent speed problems)
    5. Has to be reliable long term (ex. person/company won't disappear or fold leaving all pics dead)
    6. Can't be overly aggressive taking down content (ex. preemptively taking down content before a complaint)
    7. Uploading experience should be reasonable (ex. amount of pics you can upload at once and how you do it)

Not many hosts would pass every requirement, so it comes down to prioritization. That's not for me to decide, but I thought I'd point it out for the sake of considering different viewpoints. If it were just about which is best for the uploader, then that person would definitely be the best judge. But, the point of having required hosts is that they are supposed to be best for the forum as a whole (user, uploader, longevity of forum, etc).

I feel bad for anybody making this decision, though :p

I generally agree, simplicity is usually better. If you did need to do that, though, we could probably whip up a userscript or bookmarklet for mods to use that would highlight images (say with a red border) from non-approved hosts. Or maybe that would be useful either way?

i really like ur list of requirement.. its a nice list.. if i take pixroute and try to fit it according to requirement list.. then only a little problem i think has at point no 6. that it takes down dmca from met-art, apart from this.. i don't think they care much about a complaint of copy right.. bcoze i m using it for 2 years.. never had this copy right issue.

all others requirements pixroute fulfil it..

    1. best for hosting adult image hosting
    2. ads i m not able to see much
    3. its free registration and has more futures after the registration
    4. i hardly remember when it went offline. don't know..
    5. More than 2 years and they are there.. doesn't seems like they are going anywhere
    6. only Met-Art Thing is the Issue
    7. uploading experience good.. can upload 100 pix at one time.. using flash or remote upload.. and upload speed is really good

i hope there are others who can share their experience as well come up with more options

That's a huge issue. An imagehost should be viable for all content forum wide.
p&h imagecode is currently censored, which makes it a no go.

have to get in the "argument" a little just to mention that if they (pixroute) find out that clicks from phun.org lead to a lot of the met-art affiliates images which they will have to take down, they just might ban phon so that whatever image we try to host will not show up.

For "closure" I'll just confirm that pixroute will not be added to our approved imagehost list.

I know the discusion is over and the decision made but technically speaking no image host allows the upload of metart stuff or any other studio. ToS of all image hosts clearly states that they do not allow the upload of any copyrighted images, and that certainly includes metart.

    just my 2 cents
