Airplane! (1980) ... 8/10

Definitely worth 90 min. of your time if you've never seen it. Plenty of lulz. Not every gag has withstood the test of time, but that doesn't detract much from the overall goodness.

I Saw The Devil(Crime/Drama/Thriller/Horror/Action)

Its late evening somewhere in South Korea. Along the highway comes a lonely car in a slow pace in the snowfall. Further down the road a woman speaks with her boyfriend who is a secret agent for the police. She is waiting for a towing truck to come its gonna take some time. The boyfriend is teasing her a bit after all it isnt that difficult to change a tire. Someone knocks on her window an older gentleman it seems he looks a bit sleazy but seems rather harmless. She denies his help. Everything turns black a little while later. She wakes up in a storage room severly beaten and nude. She can barely speak but tells the man to please spare her life. He just looks at her with a normal facial expression and says why would i do that? He takes out a butcher knife and starts dismembering her body piece by piece. A few weeks later a certain secret agent finds out what has happened to his fiance, and he knows that he must become a monster to catch a monster.

Its kind of hard labelling this at certain parts its just plain gory and full of disgusting imagery. Yeah it is a bit of corean ultraviolence at times. Not for the weak of heart. At one hand we have a complete and utter psychopath on the other hand we have a cop that slowly through a downward spiral is becomming the man he is hunting. There are no happy ending in sight here even if the cop would reach his goal and serve vengeance on the psychopath it wouldnt bring his beloved back to life. Powerful acting by the two main characters they have plenty of room to shine and they take the opportunity so well. The movie is a bit long for its own good mainly because i feel that things get repetitive after a while as i feel numbed by the violence in a way. Also the way women are depicted feels very old they are simply a piece of flesh which is only a means for the psychopath to have his way with. So a movie with its stengths and weaknesses.

I had never seen it before, except for a few minutes here and there. Good for a chuckle. It's difficult to dislike Danny Glover, notwithstanding his bad acting. I was tickled that Riggs' finishing move against Joshua was a genuine jiu-jitsu triangle choke.

I saw it a few days ago and would give it the same grade. Michael Fassbender, quite wooden, wasn't very good in showing that his character suffered in that situation, and Carey Mulligan's part (the saddest "New York, New York" performance I've ever heard!) was too small and the screenplay and dialogs too inconsistent to save the movie.

Defendor(Crime/Action/Comedy)

Meet Arthur Poppington a rather innocent looking guy. He is in prison clothes and are talking to a shrink in a psychological evaluation. The judge in the case isnt sure what to make of mr Poppington so its for the best to let a shrink talk to him. Arthur starts to tell the story that led up to the imprisonment. He talks about his alter ego the superhero and crimefighter Defendor. Not Defender you gotta say the name right otherwise Arthur gets real mad. Arthur has a friend in a young hooker that he helps out when she gives a undercover cop a blowjob. You see Arthur is a bit slow maybe even just a tad retarded but things are simple in his world your either a good guy or a bad guy and god help you if your the later when he is around at night as Defendor.

Reminds me in a way of Kick-Ass in the sense that this superhero is a real down to earth person. He will get hurt by bullets and he is gonna take a hurtin from being beaten by thugs. In another way it is fun too see all the little gadgets he uses anywhere from bees to simple marbles he throws at the thugs just to throw them off. Off course this wouldnt work nearly as good if it werent for good old Woody Harrelson man he is outstanding here. Both in his protrayal as the alter ego as well as the childish Poppington. Elias Koteas and Kat Dennings are great to and its a great on screen chemistry between Dennings and Harrelson. Pretty standard formula but i do enjoy the filmnoir feel i get from the movie. A real gem that deserves to be watched by as a many as possible.

The Smell Of Success(Comedy)

Tradgedy has a way of strikeing you when you least expect. Within their corner of america Roses Manure are number 1 in shit so to speak. Their owner mr Rose has passed away and the employes within the mansionlike estate/factory are worried what will happen. Patrick Fitzpatrick are the number 1 bullshiter amongst the salesmen and is confident that he is the right man to take the company forward. After all you gotta know shit to sell shit. Well the old man had different plans his daughter Rosemary Rose is going to take over the company that are in depp debts and to make things worse another company is starting to put their shit on their territory.

Not really sure what to make of this. as you can tell from the above summary the script is full of cheap oneliners concerning the word shit and different variations of the same word. Well it gets kind of old quick in my book and i sit there after 15 minutes and are pretty bored with that repetitive part of the script. What else a brother combo that are behind the story and at certain small moments that remind me a bit of the Coen brothers special type of handywork. This moments should have been more common to really make this a more pleasant 1 and a half hour. As it is now the movie are to uneven to really be good. but there might be something there in the future for the Polish-brothers so im gonna keep my eyes on future work from them.

K-PAX(Drama/Sci-Fi)

Busy day at the trainterminal in New York. People rushes around to their different destinations. A Homeless war veteran is begging people for money. Its a sunny day in New York and rays of light flows in from the ceiling windows in the terminal. And there he is seemingly out of nowhere in the group of busy people. A man in Ray Bans that seems to be a bit different then everyone else. A woman is being mugged nearby by some punks that quickly run of. The man approaches here to see whether she is hurt or not. The police comes to the scene and questions him. Escaped mental patient is the verdict off to the mental institution it is Prot as his name is, is more than willing to follow them.

Good and convincing acting from Kevin Spacey as Prot. Jeff Bridges is reliable as the psychatrist and its good that he gives Kevin more space in their scenes after all Prot is the most interesting character in this story. Its not a slamdunk hit in my book as it seems that the moviemakers were going for both possible outcomes here. He is both what his dillusions claims him to be but he is also what the doctor discovers him to be. I just becomes a letdown. Be a bit more dareing go for one of the choices instead of this way. Yes it is in some ways a situation where the producers were tied down by the novel its based on but the way the endresult is its to bland and mediocre. Its to safe so to speak it pleases everyone.

I own K-pax, Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors, and I also have read the original book. 8/10

I saw J. Edgar Hoover last night (Leo Dicaprio) I enjoyed it, but the part of him being homosexual wasn't proven in real life; he never came out fully. He was just a "close friend" but they played up the gay part in the movie. 7-8/10
