Videodrome (1983) ... 4/10
The first third of the movie was ok, then I found it increasingly tiresome and nonsensical. Debbie Harry was still fairly hot in the early '80s, so that's something.

Holy fuck it was awesome!
I went into it unsure if I would like it. I thought it could have too many boring parts but it didn't. All the actors were great. The cinematography was top notch. Timur Bekmambetov def knows how to make a visually stunning movie. There is some incredibly awesome axe usage. It is what you want out of a summer action movie. It's probably the second best movie of the summer thus far(avengers of course top spot)

this is the RT consensus
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has visual style to spare, but its overly serious tone doesn't jibe with its decidedly silly central premise, leaving filmgoers with an unfulfilling blend of clashing ingredients.
*shrugs* so? that's the worst reason I've heard for a movie being bad. The serious tone makes this movie so much better because it takes away any of the cheese a movie such as itself would normally have. It makes everything more intense. The ingredients mix so well.. fuck you RT
The Three Musketeers 5.5/10
This was the Paul WS Anderson film from last year. I was expecting it to be really bad, but surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. It's still absolutely ridiculous, but I sort of enjoyed it because of it's absurdity and just watched it as a fun dumb action movie.
I did like the main three actors who played the Musketeers, especially Matthew Macfadyen as Athos, I thought they did a pretty good job with what they were given. And of course Milla Jovovich was incredibly hot as always

Hulk (2003) ... 6.5/10
I liked it, for the most part. I'm not a comic book purist, so I wasn't bothered by the liberties Ang Lee took with the Hulk mythology. I maybe even prefer the movie's back-story over straight gamma irradiation. Effects and action struck me as pretty solid. The eye candy was quite nice (referring to Jennifer Connelly, not Eric Bana and Sam Elliott).
Collision: Christopher Hitchens vs. Douglas Wilson - 8/10
A top-notch documentary about the 2008 Hitchens-Wilson speaking tour following the publishing of their book, Is Christianity Good for the World? The book is a collection of correspondence between the men that took place after Hitchens' open call for debate after the publishing of his book, God Is Not Great. The intriguing hook of the film (and perhaps of the book, which I haven't read) is that Hitchens, a renowned atheist, and Wilson, a Presbyterian pastor, got on famously.

The Maiden Heist(Comedy/Crime)
A museum in the states. Three museum guards come together as they share a common problem. They are admireing two paintings and a bronze statue maybe a bit more then the common museum guest. To make things worse it seems like their superiors share the same lack of passion for the art. The superiors has sold the exibit to Denmark and the plan is to get it moved as soon as possible. It is beyond our three maincharacters how the bosses could have done such a thing. Maybe a dareing heist in the middle of the moveing of the works could rescue the artwork, after all how could they apriciate the art if they have no means of getting to Denmark. Good thing that one of them has some experience in the militairy when it comes to operations.
Well we have William H. Macy, Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and Marcia Gay Harden so there are bound to be some entertainment here and sure it has it moments where giggled a bit. They must have had fun on the set and some of it shows in certain scenes. Overall it is a bit lukewarm which prevents it form reaching the better heist comedies. I do enjoy the feelgood motion that is going through the entire film. You know they are gonna pull of their plan, even in the normal problems they get into you still know it isnt too bad after all movies like this has a happy ending. Still with actors like this i was hopeing for a bit more than this. I found myself looking a bit too much it my watch which never is a good sign.

The Fighter(Drama/Biography/Sports)
Biography following the later stages in the career of Mick Ward. Mick hails from a large irish american family and is trained by his half-brother Dick. Dick is a former boxer himself but he is now a crackhead who lives through his brother and craves to stand in center of attention with his happy outspoken attitude. Its hard not to like Dick eventough he is a crackhead. Besides Dick there is the rest of the big family with tons of sisters and their mother. A selfproclaimed manager who knows what is best for her sons. Things should be dealt with inside the family so to speak, any outsiders shouldnt be trusted. Well Mick and Dick are stars in a documentary from HBO. Dick thinks its about his former career off course and he is in his ace. In reality its about drugaddiction. Being in front of the camera means that the family has to fix a fight Mick after all he is the new boxing prodigy for the family.
The thing about this film is that even if it is great (which it is trust me) is that it has been seen before so if your looking for something new look elsewhere. It has certain elements from both Rocky and Raging Bull with Rob De Niro. It has a realistic down to earth tone to it which i like, having written that i would have enjoyed it a bit more if the director of Photography would have stopped with the nervy camera work early on in the film. To explain its like they had given the camera to someone with Parkinsons Disease. Good boxing scenes but there are certain moments it gets a bit to "Rocky-esque". Mic are takeing a huge amount of beating but still gets up. No normal human being can take those punches and get up. Outstanding acting from Melissa Leo and Christian Bale (the best i have seen him and i loved him in american psycho). So even if it sounds like im shooting down the film that is not my intention the movie is good.

Heaven(Drama/Romance/Thriller/Crime)
A woman is preparing to leave her appartement in a Italian city. She is makeing sure that a device she carries will work for her when it is needed. She seems nervous and rather shock up but there is something very determined over what she has to do. She makes her way through the busy streets and approaches a high riser with glass walls. It stands out in the otherwise old looking city landscape. She makes her way to the top floors and leaves the device in the office of one of the executives at the company. Outside she makes one single phonecall to the police in the town. She explains that she has been trying to contact them several times but the lack of response from the police leaves her no other choice than to take the law into her own hands.
This is a bit problematic for me as i havent seen any Kieslowski work i cant say how well Tom Tykwers adaptation of the script stays true too Kieslowskis legacy. This was supposed to be a trilogy as far as my knowledge leads me but since the polack director died prior too makeing them we were left with the scripts and the german director Tom Tykwer made a film out of the heaven script. It is a lovely piece of cinematography where equal amount poetic imagery and thick thriller elements share the space. It is always a sad tone throughout the film as things have been set and carved in stone. Dominating display from Cate Blanchett where she so easily show both frailness and deeply rooted determination. I also must lift forward Giovanni Ribisi that allows Blanchett to steal and be dominating in the spotlight even if Ribisi himself holds a keypart. So a great film but i just dont know how to evaluate it without having seen Kieslowski earlier and therefore i cant judge whether Tom Tykwer has made a good or lousy job.

^^^ To answer to the work of Kieslowski: he's a master of the human condition, focusing on how events and encounters change people emotionally. So: Three Colors trilogy and Dekalog films - at least - are a must. Enjoy.
