I thought Colin was great in the role. He made a very arrogant vampire who was guided by hedonic desires and thirst but also had to appear human enough to pass. Also, the quote below was delivered like someone guided by an addiction (for blood in this case) and intended to intimidate Anton Yelchin's character.

"This girl tonight. She's a handful, you know? Women who look a certain way, they... they need to be managed. It's true. Your dad ducked out on you, huh? Your mom, she didn't exactly say, but there's a kind of... neglect. Gives off a scent. You don't mind my saying, you got a lot on your shoulders for a kid. The two of you, alone. And your girl... Amy. She's ripe. I bet there's a line of guys dying to pluck that. Your mom, too. You don't see it. Maybe you do, but she's putting it out. It's on you to look after them. You up for that, guy?"

He was trying to bait the kid out by talking trash about the mom putting it out. You could see that he wanted Anton to respond to that (charge him in anger).

    The Happening (2008 ) - 3/10

Ugh. What a piece of... At times I couldn't tell whether I was laughing at it or with it. It was like a tongue-in-cheek homage to those ultra-cheesy sci fi movies from back in the day, except I think it was meant to be taken seriously.

Recommended if you enjoyed: The Thing (1951), Them! (1954), Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978 ).

    The Last Station(Drama/History/Romance)

Young Valentin is having a meeting in central Moscow with Chertkov. He is the outside face to the movement that the author Tolstoy has created. In its simplicity the movement is about seeking a more simple life with less outside influences such as politics. Valentin is ever so excited about being a secretary for Tolstoy himself. Chertkov tells him to keep a personal journal and keep track of Tolstoys wifes influences on her husband. Chertkov is concerned about the possibility that Sofya will influence Tolstoy negatively. It doesnt take Valentin long to realise that everyone surrounding the Tolstoy residence on the country side is keeping their own journals for various reasons.

The emotions are running high in this historical documentation about the later stages of Tolstoys autumn years. It seems that everyone is screaming and that every scene is involving arguments of some sort. I did read that they considered it to be a movie of biographical nature at IMDB. I cant see any proof of that from what i have seen. You actually see very little of the actual author or what his views were the autumn yeras of his life. There are only argumentation about who gets what when he dies. There are also a lack of depth to the actual dramatization, despite it being a good production i dont see any hints or invitations to go deeper in the scenes. It simply goes from one scene to another and leaves very little to think further about. So a bit disappointing as i think Tolstoy is a an interesting historical figure in world litterature.

    Cube (1997) - 7/10

I'm not sure why I bothered to watch this in the first place. I thought it was a cheesy, how-many-ways-can-someone-die type of splatter flick. It's not. It's a good example of the "WTF?" subgenre of psychological thriller, that raises a lot of questions and answers only some. The set design was excellent, and the deliberate repetitiveness never got tiresome. The acting is the centerpiece; I'd found David Hewlett and Nicole de Boer kind of annoying in the past (it was really their characters that I didn't like) and this was by far their best performance that I've seen. This could be a stage-play for an ambitious theater troupe.

Recommended if you enjoyed: Bug (2006); Identity (2003); Jacob's Ladder (1990).

    The Damned United(Drama/Sports)

It is the early 70s and the board of directors at Leeds FC is haveing some problems. The manager that has led them through a prosperous era with wins domesticaly has just accepted the job as coach for the english national team. Who is gonna take over the side now. Maybe its time to look towards the former manager of their local rivals Derby. Brian Clough a young ambitious, idealistic loud mouth has made himself through his own faults impossible at the team dispite leading them to a league win. After being sacked by Derby Clough is having a vacation when a man seeks him out. Clough and his trusted assistant have formaly agreed to join Brighton and Hove Albion a team far down the league system, but the prospect of leading a team like Leeds is just to good to turn down.

This is more or less a textbook example of an appointment of man/woman for a job that couldnt have gone more wrong. It doesnt have to be sports because bad appointments can be found in any trade. Its not so much a case of Clough being a cocky little bastard in his youthful loudmouth behaviour but merely a bunch of circumstances that put together made it impossible for him to stay and the club to keep him there. The details/circumstances i leave for you to find out for yourselves but trust me when i say it would never have worked. Splendid acting by Martin Sheen and it shows that he has worked with the director on a few movies earlier. He looks a bit like Clough and is in the center of attention constantly. I know to little about Clough to know whether it is accurate or not but regardless its fine acting. Probably a movie that is somewhat limited in its target group. You must like sports and english football to find this enjoyable.

    The Good Doctor - 6.5/10.

Most certainly a low-budget film....you can sort of make that out as it plays along by observing the sets and so forth.......the acting is average.....nothing great but not bad either.......now for the story......it's good.....but I felt like it could have been much further developed....going deeper into the title character and the choices he made and the reasons for them.......without that this just comes off as an odd little movie with a good plot....sort of like a obscure interesting short story but far from a brilliant novel.

    Secretary(Drama/Romance)

Lee Holloway is fresh out of six months at a institution. She has a history of selfmutilation in for of cutting her own skin as a relief for various reasons. She has hidden it from her parents but due to a severe cut from a kitchen knife she was institutionalised. She doesnt know if she is really finished with her treatment, it was something very boring yet comforting about the routines at the instituion. Go up the same time in the morning have talks with the doctors at the same time and so forth. Her father has problem with booze and is close to being a typical case of a wife beater. Lee is just uncomfortable with what the new open world outside of the institution has to offer. She takes classes in typeing and actually manages to get good grades in it. Time to look for work. Its a rainy day as she comes to a small lawyers office of Mr. Grey. He seems a bit strict and slightly dull at first appearance but he is open enough to tell her that she will be bored to death with the job but Leigh insist that a dull boring work is exactly what she needs in her life.

At first glance its obviously hard not talk about the fact that maincharacters has problem with suffering in various ways. They deal with it through different fetishes. As things pan out both are exactly what the other needs to cope with a normal life. I dont want to get into too much details as it spoils to much of the movie. The interesting thing is that it isnt clear from moment too moment in the film who is in charge. At times Grey gets so consumed by his own selfloathing and disgust to his own unnormal behaviour that it feels like Lee are the one forceing their releashion too drive on. It works surprisingly well as the chemistry between Spader and Gylldenhall are so radiant. It is just a sensual almost erotic bond between them in the scenes. The ending of the film is to much of a happy ending for my taste i dont buy it. Also the other cast or the so called normal life seems to unbelieveble somewho as if it also is unnormal. If i am supposed to look at my surroundings through Lee:s eyes it would make sense, im just not sure if it is supposed to be that way or not. Either way good movie.

    The Dark Knight Rises

    Went at midnight showing.

Could be difficult to understand if you didn't watch Batman Begins (or didn't like it) so you need to watch the first two movies before seeing the last one. Sometimes, it's just a little too long when Gotham is under anarchy... some little questions unsolved but all these "cons" are overshadowed by intense action scenes, amazing cast and many references to the comic books! Tom Hardy is just scary enough, Anne Hathaway is... AWESOME and Christian Bale is at his best. Both Hathaway AND Gary Oldman deserve an Academy Award nomination. If you are a Batman fan, you won't be disappointed at all! Christopher Nolan unexpectedly made an amazing job!!!

    9/10!

    The Conspirator(Drama/History)

A gathering of people has ventured to the house of Abraham Lincoln. There has been rumors that something has happened but no one really can tell for sure. There are millitary personnel outside the front door. Ever since the peace treaty between north and south there has been some concern for rebell groups that might be out for revenge for the loss of the southern army. So despite a peace on paper everyone is very much ready for anything. The news from inside the house are indeed grim the president is laying bloody in a small room just inside the hallway. War minister Edwin Stanton knows very well that the presidents life is well beyond saving at this point and gather a staff around him with one simple order find the men responsible for this no matter what.

It is indeed a rather good buildup in the film. So atleast the 15 to 20 first minutes of it has good pace and im thinking to myself this is promising. Im not saying that the later part dont live up to it but the pace and feel to it changes. It turns into a courtdrama where it is so obvious what will go down for the people that are prosecuted. Then again Robert Redford hasnt got much of a choice in the matter it is well documented what happened after the killing of Lincoln so i cant complain too much. Another one of those films where i feel that the prosecutor are being a bit to much turned into a bad guy, lets not forget USA was a traumatised country at the time and people wanted comfort and reasssurance from people at charge. Off course that meant bad luck for the prosecuted. James McAvoy might turn out too be a good actor one fine day but he cant carry this movie on his shoulders he doesnt have the charisma for it. A movie that could be better.
