    The Flowers of War
6/10 Nice foreign film with Christian Bale. The could have cut out a couple bad scenes.

    One Day (2011) - 2/10

I know, I know - it's summer, not any reasonable movies in sight (and I'm not a fan of the Comic Heroes perpetuum mobile), so I gave this poignant love story a chance - a 45 min. chance, that is, and then the axe! Pale performance by Anne Hathaway and a virtually talent-free appearance by Jim Sturgess in a loveless dramaturgy.

    Wristcutters: A Love Story

    4/5

I really enjoyed the story. I would have preferred another ending for the movie but the film was entertaining and the soundtrack was excellent.

    Thor...

8/10 just on Chris Hemsworth's breathing life into the character. Also liked Natalie Portman.

One thing I can't figure out is how did Thor get back to Earth in the Avengers movie with the Bifrost gone.

I can't remember either, now that you mention it. In the comics, iirc, he was trapped on Earth, unable to return to Asgard, not the other way around.

Thank you for the inspiration, watched it last night. Indeed an unusual story, good soundtrack. As the director had a wonderful idea, but didn't explore its possibilities more thoroughly (an afterlife world, not too bad, quite similar to ours, where people can't smile), I'd rate it 6/10.

    Dreamscape(Science-Fiction,Thriller)

Alex Gardner is a former college drop out that lacks some general purpose in life. He was somewhat of a wonderkid at school with high skills within psychic abilities such as telikenisis. He still uses his talent but mainly to the extent so he can get money on horseracing. His skill draws attention of lowlifes that are greedy and after an exhausting chase on the racecourse he manages to ditch them. At home he is approached by two men in suits that want him to talk to some people at his old college. He is met by his old mentor that lets him in on a ongoing experiment to help people with nightmares. Alex unique abilities makes him perfect to help people out.

Like so many other science fiction films in the 70s and 80s it is a film that has a depressing setting to it. Ominous synth music and noone seem to be able to trust anyone. It isnt so strange if you look at from a time perspective. People were scared of the threat of a nuclear war between USA and Russia. So what else than to have a pessimistic view of what the future might hold. And off course any potential technology that could be used as a tool to dominate a future was of interest. It isnt anything spectacular about this film but an interesting thing to watch from the reasons above. As for the plot well anyone that has seen Wes Cravens nightmare on Elm Street gets some idea what this is about. In certain scenes i was waiting for Freddy Krueger to make a cameo. Apart from that i was a bit disappointed with the overall scenery in the dream scene it was overall uninspiring they could have done something with those scenes. Meh in my book.

    Streets of Fire (1984) - 5/10

Kind of fun. Nice that it was short. I liked the slightly surreal setting the most - a bizarre blend of the '50s and the '80s - and seeing Diane Lane when she was eleven put a grin on my face. Amy Madigan was cool too.

    Sanctum (2011) - 6/10

I definitely wished I'd seen this on the big screen. There were some shots where I felt like I wasn't seeing something, and the sound was mastered really poorly for watching on my television in my living room. I liked that they used the suspense of the inherent dangers of cave-diving and didn't feel the need to introduce some monster to chase the protagonists. I was nervous about some kind of cheesy, hitherto-undiscovered cave-shark showing up, or something (and not because a cave-shark would be scary).

    Limitless (2011) - 5/10

Based on a novel I haven't read, but it has sort of a Philip K Dick feel to it. Could have been good, but it loses two whole points just for the stupid voice-over narration that insults the audience's intelligence with every breath (ironic, no?). I was re-writing and re-directing almost every scene in my head as it unfolded, in a way that would have been better without the narrator. Everyone involved should feel chagrined. On the bright side, I'd never seen Abbie Cornish before; she had kind of a steely-eyed-Katherine-Heigl thing going on, which wasn't bad at all (at least for me).

William Dafoe made a good biker gangbanger in that film.

    God Bless America ... 5/10

Seems particularly poor taste in light of the movie theater shooting, but that's not a big problem for me. My grievance is that the story and dialogue were not good and the ideas the movie explored were silly. Meanwhile there were only a few things I liked about the movie (the lead actors and some of the jokes).

(Super starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page is probably a better version of whatever Bobcat Goldthwait had in mind.)

    360 - 5.5/10.

Good.....but really the same as most other multi-story dramas.

    The Punisher: War Zone(Action)

Frank Castle is a former special task force operator within the army and police. He was with his wife and kids out on a picnic in a park. In the middle of their picnic they witness a mobexecution. Needless to say the mob dont take kindly to witnessess. Bloody scenes follows and by some miraculous circumstances Frank manages to survive with the bloody remains of his family surrounding him. Knowing full well that the police are either in the mobs pockets or to scared to do anything he decides that its up to him too dish out his own war against the mob. Someone has to pay an eye for an eye. The punisher is born and the city of New York has a vigilante that works in the shadows at night. He is determined to take out all maffia families enough is enough.

Based on a comic. Like so many other heroes whether they are superheroes or merely anti heroes we are dealing with a universe that is far from reality. This is one man or one woman armies that are masters within numerous of categories. The punisher doesnt hold superhuman powers as you would see in Super Man to take one example. He is a fighting and shooting machine and physical peak condition. There are similarites with Batman in a sense the same dark nightly scenes. The Punisher doesnt have as much gadgets as Bat Man though. It is a long commercial for NRA (national rifles association). I mean its bloodspatter, brain mather and a constant fiering of guns for the full movies lengths. You dont watch this for cinematic reasons, no you watch it because when you grew being in the age spann of 10 to 15 years old you liked these types of goory and bloody films. Sometimesit feels fun the revisit these times and feed the 10 to 15 year old in you.

    5/10

P.S. Im not a comic book geek so if any info is incorrect i apologise.
