The Dark Knight Rises - pretty good movie

The movie follows the mysterious driver as he is simply known as. He lives in L.A.. He works as a stuntdriver, simple car repair man, and a getaway driver if the money is good. He passes most of his time in cars whether its by night or day it is simply what he is good at. He has passed his female neighbour on numerous occations, but this time her car is busted near the local convinience store. He takes her and her kid to his repair shop. For some reason an interest sparks in both of them. It isnt a wild and fiery romance but they both seem to enjoy their silent relationship. He is good with her kid and he enjoys spending time with both of them. Her husband is about too leave jail he is a bit suspicious of driver but knowing that he has been good with his kid he allows driver to stick around. The relative peace is about to be broken though as the husband has some unfinished debts with the wrong crowd.

A movie from the dane Winding Refn he started his career in Denmark obviously and just like in his early films this is a movie that doesnt show any mercy or compromise. The action scenes will consist of realistic ultraviolence because they have too. Its as simple as that. The dialogue is slim to none existing i wouldnt have mind if there were some more of it but Refn isnt interested in any so its up to me and you as a viewer to deal with it. The problem is that the characters remain very anonymous and why should i care about a maincharacter i hardly now anything about. As far as im concerned Driver isnt better or worse than the bad guys he pounds to pieces. Its a stylish film with good photography and the music is great. Ryan Gosling have that ability to switch from lovable careing man to a psychotic no bullshit badass that the movie requires. I like the movie for the lack of compromise but still its very anonymous in the character development.

And I just saw Men In Black 3. It was not as good as MIB 1, but WAY better than the crapfest known as MIB 2. It was funny and had some good action, I'll give it a 7/10.

Up In the Air (2009) - 8/10

A solid entry into the "mid-life crisis dramedy" subgenre. To me, George Clooney's strength as an actor is to make the guy you ought to dislike sympathetic, and without melodrama. Clooney has always seemed in danger of becoming the type of actor who just starts playing himself, like Jack Nicholson or Al Pacino, but so far he's managed to walk the line without crossing it. In this role, as Ryan, his charm tempers this character's superficial smugness and deeper unhappiness alike, rendering both palatable.

The 'timeliness' of the movie's social commentary - Ryan is a mercenary who lays people off for chickenshit employers - didn't really do much for me, perhaps because I'm so numb to it all after these last few years. Not to distraction, though; the movie isn't a political or social commentary piece, the corporate layoffs are the film's setting rather than its raison d'etre. It's the characters and the script who are the show. Scenes in the 2nd half, especially between Ryan and his soon-to-be brother-in-law, let you know that Clooney, the director, and Ryan himself are all aware of the character's shallowness.

I kind of want to hang out with George Clooney and I kind of want to have sex with Vera Farmiga, but even if neither of those things is true for you, I think I can still recommend this movie. I'd never seen Anna Kendrick before and she nailed the role here, developing a nice father-daughter vibe with Clooney ("No, I don't even think of him that way. He's old." ). I'll certainly notice her name in film credits in the future. The supporting cast - Jason Bateman, J.K. Simmons, Melanie Lynskey, Danny McBride - are a solid bullpen of relief pitchers. Director Jason Reitman also did Juno, which I liked, so I'll look for him again (Thank You For Smoking, I guess). I only recently made the connection with Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), who's his father. That has nothing to do with this movie, as Jason's films are nothing like Ivan's, but it's fun trivia that could be handy to know in a pub on a Wednesday night.

Recommended if you enjoyed: Wonder Boys (2000); Lost in Translation (2003); Sideways (2004).

Edit: Somehow I misread Hornet's post as watching two distinct movies: (1) My Girl; (2) The Campaign. I realize now that he only watched The Campaign, and his girl watched it with him.


Tron (1982) ... 4/10

I might have enjoyed this more if I had seen it as a kid, although it was already dated by then. The effects were actually pretty decent, and I don't knock the movie for that. The sequel is on deck for tomorrow night; if it hadn't already arrived I might have deleted it from my Netflix queue.

Watched Les Miserables today and it was phenomenal! The entire cast was spectacular, but I'd like to say that Sacha Baron Cohen was a complete surprise. I like that I've seen him in Hugo and this. Those two roles make me look forward to his future castings

I was also very glad that Samantha Barks was able to reprise her role as Eponine. I don't think Taylor Swift could have done it justice.

Out of 10? That's pretty low for Gone With The Wind (although it's what I would give it; for it's time, great movie, for now, pretty long and boring.)

The Dark Knight Rises 7.5-8/10.
Lower score for how it ended, and that it was almost 3 hours long. Other than that it was a very entertaining movie. I actually liked it better than the Dark Knight, but not as good as Begins.
