It and Lagavulin are my two favorite Scotches. They are only to be drunk when sober (hence starting the night) because it's a waste once I'm hammered.

Talisker is in the "very expensive but not obscene" category. $55ish or so.

The best plan of action is to find 4 friends who are all interested in scotch, have everyone buy a bottle of something nice, and try them all in one sitting. Trying 5 different really good scotches for your $60 or so seems a lot more reasonable than buying a bottle of one thing, and you're going to have preferences that make you hate a lot of good stuff and like a lot of other good stuff. No reason to get saddled with a whole bottle yourself.

Hopefully you don't come close to finish off the bottles!

Plus, it's always more fun to drink with friends.
