A few pics I took this weekend up in Michigan's Upper Pennisula ............Lake Superior........If you have never seen the Great Lakes of Michigan........This one is the Largest Fresh Water body in the world........Truly an incredible site...... A few facts about Lake Superior.......

The Largest fresh Water Lake in the world..........It is huge...........For anyone who has never seen any of the Great Lakes........From the shoreline they look like the Ocean.......Water Volume: 3,000,000,000,000,000 gallons of 440 trillion cubic feet or 10% of the world's fresh water.

Enough to flood North and South America to one foot deep.

Maximum Wave Height Recorded: 31 feet.

Shipwrecks Recorded: 350 and more than 1,000 lives have been lost.

Lake Superior has a surface area of 31,700 square miles (82,103 km2), which is approximately the size of South Carolina.

It has a maximum length of 350 statute miles (560 km; 300 nmi) and maximum breadth of 160 statute miles (257 km; 139 nmi).

Its average depth is 80.5 fathoms (483 ft; 147 m) with a maximum depth of 222 fathoms (1,332 ft; 406 m).

According to legend, "Lake Superior seldom gives up her dead".This is because of the unusually low temperature of the water, estimated at under 36 °F (2 °C) on average. Normally, bacteria feeding on a sunken decaying body will generate gas inside the body, causing it to float to the surface after a few days. The water in Lake Superior is cold enough year-round to inhibit bacterial growth, and bodies tend to sink and never surface.

It contains as much water as all the other Great Lakes combined, plus three extra Lake Eries. For those of you that know the Great Lakes...That is hard to imagine.............

It very rarely freezes over completely, and then usually just for a few hours. Complete freezing occurred in 1962, 1979, 2003 and 2009. The winds that come off it in the winter.......are deathly cold and brutal........

a couple of weeks ago a Mitek (innuinaqtun for Mallard) was taking her Family of 13 ducklings across the Runway. good thing there was no traffic, I just happened to have my camera handy. was funny and cute watching them waddle across.

not sure someone must have put the tiles in some random pattern. It was that way when i got there.

The red ones can be eaen more than once but the prown and green ones are really bad for your health
