There is no need to be sad, as crafting is in the game. The video creator just meant that there was no crafting implemented in the Alpha build he played, which isn't much of a surprise as anyone playing the build would not have the proper amount of time to see how it all works.

So cheer up! It sounds like the game is going to be awesome.

Something interesting I just came across:

New Sony Patent Blocks Second Hand Games

Sony has reportedly patented technology that will prevent the use of second hand games on consoles.

According to NeoGAF member gofreak, the patent application was filed on 9 December 2012 by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, and will work by linking individual game discs to a user's account without requiring a network connection meaning any future attempt to use this disc on another user's console won't work.

The use permission tag stores the terms of use of the game and determines whether a combination of the disc ID and the player ID conveyed from the reproduction device fulfils the terms of use or not.

The patent explains that games will come with contactless tags that will be read by your console in much the same way as modern bank cards. When a disc is first used, the disc ID and player ID will be stored on the tag. Every time the disc is used in future, the tag will check if the two ID’s match up and, if not, then the disc won’t work.

The document goes on to explain that such a device is part of Sony's ongoing efforts to deter second-hand games sales, and is a far simpler solution than always-on DRM or passwords.

It's worth noting that Sony has not confirmed the existence of the device, and the patent doesn't state what machine it will be used in, with later paragraphs also mentioning accessories and peripherals.

It does raise some concerns though. Firstly, the impact on game rental stores would be catastrophic as surely this means they'd no longer be able to do business? Given publishers' usual desire to keep retailers sweet by not undercutting them on prices and the like, this would be an unusual move.

There's also the issue of what happens should your console break and need replacing, or if you have more than one console. Will the games be linked to your PSN account, meaning they can still be used, or the console, meaning an entire new library of titles would need to be purchased?

IGN reached out to Sony for comment but was told the company doesn't comment on rumour and speculation.

If this is true, Sony will have seriously shot themselves in the foot because no-one in their right mind will buy a PS4.

I have always been a playstation man but if this is true I can't see me buying a PS4. I simply couldn't afford to buy all new, full priced games. Fifty notes for a game is too much for me if I am to buy a few games on top of what will probably be a four or five-hundred pound machine.

Everyone is stressing how this just a patten and that they did this same kinda move before the ps3 was released. But i see this as a real possibility.Makes me glad that i decided i was going MS exclusive next generation. Now if Ms starts doing this I'm gonna be pissed, but at least i would only be paying full price for games with one console instead of three.

Another thing that would make this suck is if the price of games go up like most developers think they will.So we all would be buying a console for about 500 bucks and only be able to play new games that could be 80 bucks or more.that's insane money.

The gaming industry seems to be more greedy than the film industry nowadays.

There was something about Microsoft doing the same thing a few months ago; I think both companies are looking at it, but I highly doubt it will be implemented since they have to know how much it would hurt their business. Sony also patented a break apart controller... don't see that one coming anytime soon

Sony is only 2-3 million consoles sold behind Microsoft for this generation and they came out a year later so they are really just behind Nintendo. I know if either company applies this I'll probably still buy the consoles for the first party games and the rest I will play on PC.

Sony as a company is doing pretty bad, PlayStation is there only profitable sector right now which should tell you how bad it is. The Tsunami in 2011 really damaged a lot of companies in Asia, that along with the poor worldwide economy I'm surprised most consumer electronic companies are still open.

I took ages buying my PS3 because I was waiting for the price to come down. Now you can get a 500GB PS3 for under £200, which is ace.

I still think that at a decent price it's the best thing you can buy to sit under your TV. A top flight games console, net access and free blu ray player? Result.

But I still want to be able to choose if I pay full price for a game or not. I have maybe eight PS3 games but only paid full price for three of them.

Even if this is true, I'd doubt we see it in the PS4. Best case for Sony would be whipping something like this out for their eventual PS5 and by then we'd probably be more likely to download a full fledged game for our consoles (like we do with Steam already for example) rather than buy a disc at some store which makes the patent moot.

If the movie industry could do what Sony is possibly doing, they would. So it's less about the game industry being more greedy and more about the movie industry lacking the means to be even more greedy.

Exactly. Just because a company patents something doesn't mean we will necessarily be seeing it anytime soon or at all. Hell, some companies will patent stuff for the sole purpose of screwing over their competitor's.
