Brendan Rodgers has emerged as the new favourite to succeed Kenny Dalglish in the Anfield hot seat.

Wigan's Roberto Martinez was being strongly tipped to take over at Liverpool after talks with the club's American owners Fenway Sports Group in Miami last week.

But there was still no word from Martinez as he arrived back in Manchester today following a family holiday in Barbados and Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has issued a deadline of Thursday for an agreement to be reached.

The story took a new twist today with Swansea boss Rodgers, who originally turned down the chance to speak to FSG, appearing firmly back in frame with online bookies Sky Bet. He is now 1/2 to be appointed Reds' manager with Martinez out to 2/1.

It now appears to be definitely a two-horse race with Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp out to 12/1 after being as short as 2/1 early on Monday.

Football trader Joe Petyt explained: "When Martinez was photographed with FSG's John Henry in America he became the strong favourite but even during that time we saw sustained money for Rodgers.

"In the last 24 hours the amount of money we've seen on Rodgers has increased substantially which indicates to us that some people have heard that he's going to take the job."

Looks like the possible signing of Kagawa is still in the running for Manchester United. The sporting director of Dortmund made a short and diplomatic statement saying that there are some details that needs to be sorted out which would implicate that the signing isnt completely out the doors. Liverpool has been in contact with Juventus in regards of the player Milos Krasic that arent to pleased with his life in Italy. Juventus are mostly interested in selling Krasic but at the moment Liverpool are looking into the possibility of a loan.

Here's what I don't get with Man U possibly signing Kagawa. He's an attacking midfielder and plays a similar role to someone like Cleverley, not to mention the fact that the likes of Young, Rooney and Giggs can all fill in there, but United really need a world class central or defensive midfielder. Surely paying 10 or so million more for someone like Modric or a Yaya Toure type player would be a better option, wouldn't it? What are your thoughts Flippy?

yeah we need a class playmakeing midfielder. Im still hopeing for Modric but the rumours are linking nicolas Gaitan with us from Benfica. Carrick is a good passer of the ball but he is how should i put it too slow in his mind to see the plays fast enough. Scholes isnt getting younger and Anderson is constantly injured. Cleverley isnt ready for the job yet.

Too bad that history doesnt stop...it keeps going...so if in 20 years you still have only these to show and the rest have continued on winning titles...then history will be your curse!
