Liverpool have completed the signing of Swansea's Wales international midfielder Joe Allen.
Allen, 22, was at Anfield on Thursday as Liverpool beat FC Gomel 3-0 and passed a medical on Friday.
He becomes Brendan Rodgers's second signing after the capture of Italy international striker Fabio Borini
Thanks, AFX!
Mexico won the Olympic men's football title for the first time when they stunned favourites Brazil 2-1 in front of 86,162 fans at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Oribe Peralta put Mexico ahead after 28 seconds and added their second in the 75th minute with a header before Hulk replied for Brazil in stoppage time. With seconds remaining Oscar had a golden chance to equalise but headed wide.
The result leaves five-times World Cup winners Brazil still searching for the one major title to elude them after trying for 60 years. It was their third defeat in an Olympic final after previous losses in 1984 and 1988.
Peralta fired Mexico ahead in the first minute after a defensive mix-up between Sandro and Rafael, then had a goal disallowed before his powerful header from a free kick effectively sealed their victory.
Btw, Argentina and France are the only two national teams that have won the three most important men's titles recognized by FIFA: the World Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the Olympic tournament. They have both also won their respective continental championship (Copa América for Argentina, and UEFA European Football Championship for France).
its only stunning to those outside north America. Mexico has a good young "golden generation" right now and wouldnt be surprised if they win one of the next 2 WC with this squad
Thanks to Cold As Ice for the sweet Cheryl sig
Brazil are a shadow of their former selves, yeah I think Neymar, Moura and Oscar are the future but they play in a shite team and I think they have no chance really in taking their glory at 2014

A FRIENDLY between Benfica and Fortuna Dusseldorf was abandoned last night when the referee was floored after red-carding a player.
Benfica captain Luisao appeared to shove referee Christian Fischer following team-mate Javi Garcia’s sending-off in the 39th minute.
Fischer had treatment from Dusseldorf’s team doctor but decided against resuming the match.

i just hope that Luisao:s ban from UEFA will be reasonable. I do recall that they have a tendency to overreact at times.

It is likely that Jack Rodwell will finish a move from Everton to local rivals Manchester City in the comming day or two. Everton are struggling with their current financial situation and probably have little choice other than selling the young player. Rodwell will be the first signing for City this summer. Mancini has said that he wants more players but that he wont complain with the board of directors decisions.
