Normally it's good for a tournament if the host nation goes as far as possible in the competition, but in this instance if South Africa get knocked out early doors, there's the possibility the natives will lose interest and we may finally get a break from those fucking vuvuzelas and can actually hear some proper atmosphere in the grounds!The silence after Uruguay scored a goal was great.
As an Englishman, this really hurts to say, but I gained a newfound respect for Diego Maradona today. Did anybody else see the report about him hitting back against criticism levelled towards him by Michel Platini?
Apparently Platini had criticised his performance as Argentina coach and Maradona's response was: "As for Platini, I always had a very distant relationship with him — hello and goodbye. We know how the French are and Platini is French and he thinks of himself as being more than the rest of the world. I've never paid him any attention and I won't do it now."
