Two former Grand Slam winners have tipped Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray to win the US Open.

The Scot, 25, is a defeated finalist in three of the four Grand Slams, including at Flushing Meadows in 2008.

I hope not, I hate the fact he was given the medal

    Federer won though!

a 16 year old named Victoria Duval played Clijsters last night. Seems like a cool kid.

"During the first set, if only briefly, a sense of magic overtook the stadium as Duval took three straight games to take a 3-2 lead in the set. Duval scored points in those games, but she could hardly contain her youthful exuberance, as she went toe-to-toe with one of the greatest tennis players in the world. She was noticeably trying to hide an excited smile. "

Former world number one Andy Roddick is to retire from tennis after the US Open.

The American made the announcement at a specially arranged news conference on his 30th birthday.

It means his second-round clash with Australian Bernard Tomic on Friday could be his last match.

"I've decided that this is going to be my last tournament. I just feel like it's time," said Roddick, who won his only Grand Slam in New York in 2003.

Roger Federer admitted he was saddened by Andy Roddick's retirement, insisting he'll always regard him as a "Wimbledon champion" despite the American's epic failures to lift the All England Club title.

World number one Federer beat Roddick three times in the Wimbledon final in 2004, 2005 and 2009 with their last encounter decided 16-14 in the final set.

"He could have gotten that title," said Federer, whose stranglehold over Roddick also extended to the 2006 US Open championship match.

Roger Federer withstood an early barrage to see off Andy Murray in straight sets and reach the final of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
The Swiss will try for a seventh season-ending title on Monday after ending the best season of Murray's career with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 win.

Federer will play world number one Novak Djokovic in the final.

Aussie Update: Sloane Stephens beat Serena Williams in 3 sets.

I guess Serena had a back injury, but still a great win for Sloane.

Defending champion Victoria Azarenka overcame injury problems to end Sloane Stephens' Australian Open run and set up a final with China's Li Na.

Sixth seed Li thrashed Maria Sharapova 6-2 6-2 in the first semi-final.

Azarenka is well known for taking "questionable" injury time outs. Sloane Stephens was outplaying her in the second set until Azarenka had an injury time out for two separate injuries ... it lasted 10 minutes! The announcers were saying it was excessive.

After the injury time out Stephens lost all momentum and Azarenka took the second set/match. I'm not saying that Stephens would have won if it would have gone 3 sets, but it sure was a douche bag maneuver by Azarenka. She should be ashamed that as the world #1 she had to pull that crap on a green teenager.

I'm a huge Sharapova fan (for obvious reasons) but like Li Na too. I thinks she's a bit under appreciated ... she's not super tall but has a pretty big game. I'd LOVE to see her take out Azarenka but I'm not sure that will happen.
