It's not called the World Cup, it's called the World Series. And I believe Japan won the World Baseball Classic that was held back in March. So in essence they are the true WORLD champions.

Because more often than not in the Champions league the teams that compete have at one time been the champions of their own league. Take the English teams Man Utd Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea! All have dominated football in England over the last 20 years the same goes with Spain Germany and Italy... And nothing to do with where the players come from! Thanks for the info though..
