First bit of news here; last bit of news at the old thread...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/8497949.stm

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says he believes the new points system will encourage better racing in Formula 1.

A new spread of points for 2010 increases the difference between first and second place, which is now seven points rather than two last year.

"There is a much stronger incentive for the person in second place to try to beat the guy in front," Brawn said.

"The argument is if there's only two points, it's not such an incentive. If it's seven it's much more attractive."

Last year, the points went down to eighth place, with 10 points for a win, eight for second and six for third.

Following a meeting of rules think-tank the F1 Commission on Monday, that has now been changed to extend the points down to 10th place with places rewarded in a 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 sequence.

F1 is televised at 8AM on Sunday mornings in the States.

This weekend begins all my racing activities, I'll be snowed in too, so I'll be able to watch without distraction or obligations.

I miss Daytona this time of the year. I lived there for 17 years and was a big NASCAR fan. I worked a half mile from the track and could hear the cars practicing from our office. We would even go down to the track at lunch in December and January and watch the cars practice.

I got to meet almost of all the well known drivers of the 80's and early 90's. Bill Elliott and Harry Gant were the friendliest. Dale Sr. always acted like a prick. He wouldn't shake hands or talk to anyone unless he was at a sponsor's event.

That's cool Stud. I have Dover and Pocono within distance and have met Jeff Gordon several times.

When I first got into NASCAR I was a Dale Sr. fan, but after watching his drunk and disorderly fans, and his shitty attitude, I bailed. Gordon was running the sprint cars and then, at the time, the Busch Series. When he moved up to Cup, that's when I started routing for him.

Can't beat the sound a stock car makes. I've told many people you can't appreciate a NASCAR race until you've been to one.

One of the advantages of a weekend winter snow. Enjoy it, P4.

Another series to be starting soon, ALMS. For those who enjoy sports cars/sports prototypes, the 12 Hours of Sebring will kick the year off on Saturday, March 20 I believe. SPEED TV usually provides excellent coverage.

Sportscar nut here. Shame we won't see Audi and Pug go head-to-head too often this year.
