Canadien's fan here, but since they got eliminated, I'll all for Chicago to win the Stanley Cup!![]()
Neither goalie made any kind of statement last night. Chicago withstood the onslaught better then the Flyers. As usual, anything can happen, hopefully the Flyers will outlast Chicago and take game two.
Let's keep the fat lady in her dressing room for a while, going to take all 7 games to wrap this one up.
If Philly happens to win the cup, Marian Hossa will officially be the unluckiest player in this league, making the finals 3 times in a row and ending up on the wrong team everytime.![]()
Niemi was good in the third but, yeah, it wasn't a night of great goal-tending.
The game last night gave me more confidence that the Hawks will win this series. They played poorly for a good chunk of the game, took some stupid penalties, got no power plays (bleeping ridiculous), gave up five goals...and still won the game.
Philly can play better too, but I don't think their best game is good enough to beat a Hawks team playing well or their best.
But we'll see.
Yesterday, Chicago managed to do something that Montreal couldn't, and that is to get into Leighton's head, and that is a good thing to do it on game 1.
Hawks in 5![]()

The Flyers are playing some of their best hockey, unfortunately Chicago is playing just a little bit better.
Hopefully the Flyers can win their two home games.

I'm new at watching hockey, and to be real, the only reason I'm watching now is that the home-team Chicago Blackhawks are in the finals!
But what I was wondering about is can someone explain why the Flyers had no goalie durring the last minute or so of last nights game? Was there some kind of penalty or something?![]()
...thanks! I'm still learning!![]()
Teams who are down will pull their goalie late in the game to give themselves an additional player on the offensive side of the ice. Kind of like creating your own power play, the draw back is, and it's a big one, is any errant shot towards your goal could go in and give the other team an even bigger lead.
