Internet Campaign Pushing for Donald Glover As Spider-Man Gains Steam

In the latest of the recent spate of grassroots Facebook campaigns, fans have begun an effort to get Community’s Donald Glover cast as the next Spider-Man. After last week’s reveal of the five (relatively unknown) actors in contention to play Peter Parker in the upcoming reboot of the franchise, i09’s Marc Bernadin wrote a piece arguing that “the last thing Spider-Man should be is another white guy.” This spurred the suggestion from commenters that Glover (previously a writer for 30 Rock) would be a great choice.

Glover himself has actively supported the campaign, tweeting, “I don’t want to just be given the role. I want to be able to audition. I truly love Spider-Man.” He asked his Twitter followers to retweet the “#donald4spiderman” hashtag, which rose to the third top trending topic in the U.S. Monday night. And in about 24 hours, the Facebook fan page already has over 3,000 members. While they're at it, we wouldn't mind campaigns for Alison Brie as Mary Jane and Ken Jeong as the Green Goblin.

Spidey is white, face it and get over it.

If you are going to cast anyone as Spider-Man who is not white, you'll have to call the movie something else cause it won't be Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Maybe when they cast the "Black Panther" movie they should ask Jim Carey or Ben Stiller to play the role.

I don't see what the big deal is, I mean he's obviously not gonna get cast in the role and this is just the latest internet trend news of the week which will probably disappear in a couple weeks

This shit will surely be the death of us, but it appears to be the modus operandi of the media, and the current administrations around the globe.

Kingpin is an ancillary minor character who most people outside hardcore comic geeks didn't even know existed (for that matter I'd guess a majority of non-comic book enthusiast didn't know who/what Daredevil himself was). I think most non comic geek people are well aware of what race Peter Parker/Spiderman is.


And, for the record, Justin Bieber's race is irrelevant since it is well known that he's really the Anti-Christ.
