this thread is kinda old but ill bump it to ask just one question: how do you bubble with "fakery?" i know how to bubble but i couldn't really figure it out or find it on the internet.

Kinda sad to see a new creative concept bastardized by the people that want to do fakes instead keeping the original thread on topic (sounds kinda familiar). I'd say the most recent posts belong in the fakes thread, not here. If you want to fake, skip the bubbling aspect, and just do it without the blurring in the fake thread.

It's not sad. No one else is posting anything. I just figured I'd try something new and see if anyone liked it.

Well I've done a few of the 'bubbled+fake' images. The thing that makes it appealing as a project (visual trick) is that the faking only needs half the work you'd need to get it to a level where it works as a bubbled image. It might even be less than half the work.

To explain a little further: to get a convincing fake requires a lot of work to get it from say 90% convincing to 96-97% convincing, where its only then going to register as 'real'. That last 6-7% is going to take a work level and also skill level more than the previous 90% took. It's the old rule of diminishing returns.

So why I do the fake+bubble trick: If you take it {fake it} to 90% convincing and then use a blur filter and some texture effect, it smooths out all the rough poor & work and that's where the bubbling effect does it's bit and you get a very convincing image for WAY less work.

Call me lazy if you want, but I like to think of it as Bubbling v2.0.

Since if it is do different, why not start a new thread so the two don't get intermixed? Or just post in the fakes thread since that is what it is. Not trying to be a dick, just trying to respect the thread's original concept & content.

i understand the concept of how you bubble, but what i dont understand is how you make the blurred stand out (as in a little bulge effect and how to make it look separate from the original image).

My pleasure. And just to be clear, I found out about bubblerand some days ago, and tought it could come handy so I took the time to point out it with a link. Didn't notice this thread before, it surely seems more appropriate.
