Weeds season 6 - 6/10.
Not a bad season, but it's really just becoming more of the same thing....though the creators keep changing the settings and locations the basic story line is about the same.
Weeds is on season 6????

The Last show I just watched was the finale of "Friday Night Lights" It was a great show and the finale was everything you would want a finale to be. You do not have to like football to like the show
Whedon's genius in that show will never be surpassed I don't think, as far as the vampire genre goes. His characters were beyond compare. Aside from SMG, who was fairly well known from daytime soaps (in the USA), I think the fact that he used virtually unknown actors was an integral part of the success of the show. you knew the characters as the characters, not the actors portraying them. I think that's cool.

Jammsbro & J3,
I was exaggerating a little about the whole "broadcast TV is dead" business. Just wanted to kick off the thread with a little pizazz. But I've personally weened myself off of live TV entirely: I get by with high speed internet and a Netflix account.
As for DS9, I somehow missed the whole war with the Dominion when it was on TV. A few years ago, I got the entire series on torrent and zoomed through it in a few months. Good stuff.
The only television I watch anymore is sports. Like you I've weened myself off the idiot box. Unlike you, I have no current interest in what's being broadcast anymore. I take a passing interest in a few shows, like Dirty Jobs or some History Channel type stuff, but that's about it.
Don't see why not.

I actually disagree about this point. I hardly ever watch episodic TV series as they air, or even bother recording them. I adore the availabilty of DVD boxsets, and will devour a particular series over the course of a week or two, not watching any other shows inbetween, therefore giving my full dedication and concentration to that particular programme. Certainly when it comes to an episodic series with a continuing story arc like say Heroes or Lost, I tend to totally forget what has happened weeks or months ago if I watch it once a week over a half year run. Infact it's often pretty interesting watching an entire seeason over a short period of time just how often the actual writers forget about plot strands and characters too - often entire subplots and incidental characters disappear randomly or are forgotten about, never to be brought up again.
With shows like Buffy or The X-Files, which although they had an overall story arc, they tended to have stand-alone shows, so you could dip in and out without too much trouble keeping up with what's going on. As for the criticism of losing the "cliffhanger" element, well that's just like a good page-turner of a book surely? The author will often end a chapter with a twist or a teasing piece of plot development tempting the reader to carry on and not put the book down. Same with watching back-to-back episodes of a DVD box-set if you ask me.
Whilst modern TV may be awash with soul-destroying reality bilge and mind-numbing talent shows, it's also commonly acknowledged that the small-screen is largely where the finest dramas and most intelligent and mature material is currently being made. Whilst mainstream Hollywood films tend to target the lowest common denominator in search of box-office appeal with endless sequels, remakes and flashy, morally empty effects movies, TV, particular American TV from the likes of HBO and such, is producing some incredible output. You only have to look at the big name filmmakers such as Scorsese, Spielberg and Darabont now exploring its potential for proof of that.

ReGenesis, season 1 - 4/5 stars
A Canadian "science drama" about a fictional group of scientists who investigate all manner of weird-yet-plausible incidents; kind of like the Centers for Disease Control, but not limited to disease outbreaks. Good scripts and a very charismatic cast of actors, some of whom you might recognize. Season 2 was also very good. I couldn't find a trailer that didn't suck, so I found a little scene that contains no spoilers.
Sherlock, series 1 - 4/5 stars
Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson, seeing all of these 21st-Century wannabes reinterpreting their characters, have decided to get back in the game and show these youngsters how the originals got it done. Benedict Cumberbatch (how English a name is that, eh?) and Martin Freeman nail the roles. Series 1 consists of three, 90-minute episodes that loosely adapt some of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. BBC Wales has greenlit Series 2 for late 2011.
Fringe Season Season 3 8/10
I don't need to say anything beyond echoing what MovieHound already said about watching the first 2 seasons before diving into the newest offering.
For reasons known only to Sky One they have decided to take a hiatus from showing the 2nd half of season 3 until april, even though they took great pride in informing the audience that the 1st half was shown only days after the states.
What I hear you ask did they replace Fringe with in the schedule... That idiot Louie Spence prancing around like a fairy for hours on end. Who even likes the bloke or his vapid, coma inducing, celebrity loving show, that has nothing to offer beyond confirming my previously held belief that celebrities are all whores and most dancers are gay.
Awesome show, that they no longer show in Britain after Bravo cancelled it's Adult Swim programing. They would rather show 10 year old repeats of Takeshi's Castle it seems
And for a long time it was really hard to find any Adult Swim stuff on DVD
I often hear people say that TV is not as good as it used to be.
That is a load of crap, I don't know about other countries but in Britain TV was awful for the most part when I was growing up.
For the most part TV has improved with the increased competition from abroad and the masses of new channels available. The only channels that have reduced quality are Channel 4, which is trying to catch the youth market by showing a stream of teen based shit and reality TV, all of which must be hosted by Davina Macall and ITV, which has forgone making shows like Frost, Taggart, Cracker and Sherlock Holmes in favour of programs that no one likes or watches, such as Wild At Heart(not the excellent Lynch movie), Jeremy Kyle and the endless stream of reality TV shows.
The BBC now has 4 channels to choose from, BBC1 for mainstream viewing, BBC2 for comedy, culture and documentaries, BBC3 for morons and BBC4 for music and arts.
Channel 4 is garbage for the most part as is E4, but More4 has some good shows on it.
ITV is continuing with it's policy of making and showing rubbish.
I agree. I got into Fringe by watching the first 5 or 6 episodes of Season 2 on Hulu. I enjoyed it, but I had a lot of questions. So I got the Season 1 DVDs on Netflix. For a while, I was switching back and forth between Ssn1 and Ssn2. Reassembling the series that way scrambled my brains.
