So two weeks into poll, and the majority approve that Depositfiles should be added... so I guess it's inevitable that it will be added.
As i said earlier, I don't mind DF being added - but it shouldn't be the ONLY filehost added, as the recent download speeds of DF for free users are almost as bad as free user RS speeds (at a laughable 30kbps, on par with phone modems back in the late 90's). The sporadic nature of DF download speeds for Free users should be something to be considered, especially if hot new links are going to be capped at subpar 30kbps speeds.
There have been recommendations made in previous replies here - all of them are pretty awful choices, based on the self-interest of virtual cash rewards.
So, I'd like to recommend 3 filehosts, based on the interest of PURE sharing - I've been using all three in the past year on other boards and with very good results in both upload & download performance. MOREOVER, all three offer good service for free users:
1) Toucansharing - Good upload and download speeds, no-nonsense filesharing service. They offer a point-based rewards program that can ONLY be used towards a premium account, which is quite nice. Some upload limits if your a Free, Registered or Premium member (200mb, 500MB & 1GB respectively). The only downside I've encountered is - since they're sorta new to the filehosting scene - sometimes their servers go offline once or twice a week, from anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Not too bad considering the good solid service so far with good file longevity.
2) iFile.it - Fairly good upload and good download speeds, simple interface, fairly solid filesharing service. No rewards program, just a simple filesharing service. 1GB upload limit per file, unlimited capacity with above average file longevity. They're download speeds can be a little slow during peak times but otherwise no huge downsides.
3) Zippyshare - This was a recent discovery from a month back, even tho they've been around since 2006. They have only one downside = 200MB upload limit per file. But that downside is offset by offering parallel downloads (i.e. downloading multiple files at the same time). Fast download speeds, good upload speeds, unlimited storage space (30 day limit for inactive files) and remote upload ability... ALL FOR FREE! No premium membership to pay for!
Other possible filesharing services that I'd be "ok" with:
Share-Online.biz - A sorta new German based filesharing service, I've gotten pretty good download speeds and they offer some pretty nice frills with file management and interfaace. Two downsides - they sometimes limit download ports to Free users, so Free users may get the "no download ports available, try again later" message (something Filefactory was notorious for) and rewards system that offers virtual cash rewards that may encourage spamming (supposedly tough to acquire).
Fileserve - While they're back and supposedly running at good upload and download speeds, the fact that they shutdown earlier this month and basically screwed former uploaders by deleting files and banning accounts with little warning, kind of makes me hesitate to actually use them.
IMHO, all of the following above are WAY better filesharing services in terms of upload/download service & speeds than the current ones recommended in past replies. I've always held the stance that Free users shouldn't be screwed into buying a premium membership just to download at a decent speeds or endure awful wait times, and all the previous recommendations (i.e. Netload, Filefactory and especially Oron) are notorious for those things.
Again, want to reiterate - adding Depositfiles as an approved filehost is ok, but not as the ONLY filesharing service added.![]()

What about netload?
As far as I know its not banned in USA or any other country, good download speed for free users, no captcha, stable for long time.

Netload has always been notoriously slow for me in the past. So, decided to try it just now, just to see the good download speed for free users.
So I chose a 400MB file and after the first countdown, then had to enter a numeric captcha- finally the download started... 4kbps. Estimated download time? 1 day 2 hours.
Maybe I chose a bad time to download... though I doubt it.![]()

I'm just wondering who would even try 2 dl 1-5 GB file (WoodyMonster's stuff) as free user from any host!? Free dl is bit of nonsense when it comes to quality porn dl. Many ppl here bought FS a/c as they have some content and it was good investment.
Without content all this host talk is in vain. Few 'pure' posters already have RS & MF option so they can upload w/150k (as I do) and purist will dl at 150k too so all happy.

I agree with you, probably netload is overload now after crash of fs and others serwices. Before I used to dl with good speed but now its really poor.
On deposit is better dl speed.
deposit is better
netload can be another option

As a free user, the d/l speeds varied greatly and recently, I found a ton of DF that caused me to purcahse a 60 day plan. Saves the 60 second wait and only able to d/l one file, but the d/l speeds still vary greatly.
So for me adding DF has a host, I really don't care one way or the other.
But, what about a Multi host such as Mirrorcreator.com (allows you to chose up to 8 hosts w/ 200 MB limits) or qooy.com (uploads to the hosts of their choice, with I think only 100 MB limits)?

Deposit File is very old, very known and stabile host, and just like any other host in the net (allowed at Phun or not) it is not perfect. I've been using it for a couple of years now, and here is my sincere opinion about it.
1. Now when Megaupload and Filesonic are fucked up, and when Rapidshare and Hotfile are not giving to uploaders any reward system any more, DF is right now the only stabile host out there that still gives certain rewards to uploaders, 10-25$ per 1000 downloads, and even more if you upload bigger files.
2. You can upload at DF without registration and the maximum file size for you is then 300 MB. However, if you register as a free user, your upload file size is then 2 GB. For free users, files are deleted automatically 30 days after the last download. For registered free users this period is 90 days. Of course, just like any other host, they also delete files when they receive complaints that your file is pornographic or copyrighted, but you can always upload it again
3. As a free user or unregistered user, you can download from a unique IP 2GB per day. Of course, the speed will be seriously reduced, but from my experience so far, if you start downloading, and you see that you need 5 hours to download 100 MB, just cancel the download, and start again in 10-15 min, because speed is fluctuating. My recommendation for free users is to download from DF early in the morning, Central European Time, because they have the lowest DL/UL traffic then and allow higher speeds (they are from Germany). Free users can also download this 2 GB file if they want, or several smaller files, with waiting time between each of them (the waiting time also fluctuates). Users that have dynamic IP adresses have no limits here, provided that they change their IP after each download.
4. DepositFile is good and stable host, that I can say for sure after almost three years of using it. It has its downsides, but for a host that still has reward system for uploaders, it is at the moment the best on the net. I was a dedicated user of MU, but it doesn't exist any moreI believe that uploaders on the net will massively switch from MU and HF to DF, so, I think our admins at Phun should seriously consider the possibility of making DF approved.
PS: Uploaders usually don't split their files at DF, except when they make mirrors to other links, so my recommendation is to approve DF not as a mirror, but as a standard host, so that uploaders don't need to split files, and free users can get those files much easily than to download 2 or more rars. I personally have to split my files larger than 200 MB, for the most stupid reason in the world. I recently moved and bought myself a shitty wireless surfstick, to have internet access until my DSL provider come. And every time my dog pees outside, I lose connection. So, in order to be able to upload anything, I have to split, hoping that one rar will be over before the next rain falls or so.
PS: Uploaders usually don't split their files at DF, except when they make mirrors. It is easier for the users who download to DL one bigger file than to DL three or four parts of it with waiting time. So, if Phun is to approve DF, then admins should seriously consider the problem of splitting files. If DF must have mirrors, than it would be a problem for downloaders, due to waiting time and limits etc. But if DF is to be approved normally, and no file smaller than 1GB may be splitted, than it would be much easier for downloaders.
PS2: Personally, I split files for some quite dumm reason. Recently I moved and bought myself a shitty wireless surfstick. And every time my dog makes a pee outside, I lose my connection. So I split, hoping that one of my rars will be successfully uploaded before the next rain falls or so. And guys, Deposit is not Russian, it is 100% German, making it reliable as RapidShare. I don't know how long it will last, but as somebody from Germany, I can tell you that we don't give a shit about what American government says. For the time being, at least![]()
