Oh gawd...I've only just found out about this oron thing

I paid for 3mths membership in April as I got fed up of waiting an eternity for DL's to complete. I've used it for 99% of the time just for downloading stuff, but I did once upload a couple of picture albums of Little Caprice on another board....but I think there were literally only a handful of DL's of them, so I deleted them!

It runs out in about 10 days....I deffo won't be renewing!!

I hope that doesn't come back to bite me on the bum....

Readind this is unsettling, I've heard of host handing over their uploaders info, but downloaders ip seems to be overkill for any law suit against downloaders, the sheer litigation logistics would be a massive undertaking, not to mention downloaders are located worlwide so collecting on any ruling would be difficult at best.
Now is delelting any files downloaded from them enough to avoid any problems? If anyones knows please let us know?

Oron appears to be defunct now! One could speculate that August 1st arrived, along with the bills, and with their accounts frozen Oron was stuffed?

or the server is on the move

normally when a site goes down the isp change it to a default page saying it doesn't exist anymore and that the owner should contact them.. though in some cases they just disappear.

LAS VEGAS — Oron.com is down due it its inability to pay vendors, according to Oron attorneys.
"[T]he longer the site is inoperable, the greater the chances are that Oron may never recover," the file-locker's counsel said in court papers yesterday.
In those court papers, Oron is opposing Corbin Fisher's motion to expedite a hearing to enforce a settlement agreement, which Corbin Fisher contend was consummated.
Oron last month was hit with Corbin Fisher's $34.8 million suit, alleging the file-locker site is liable for rampant copyright infringement. Almost immediately, a federal judge in Las Vegas signed orders for a temporary restraining order effectively freezing all of its assets, with the exception of $100,000 for business expenses.
Yesterday, without warning, Oron.com disappeared from the Internet.
Oron told the court that Corbin Fisher's counsel has bombarded the file-locker site with so many legal motions, it has blown through its limited funds on legal fees.
"It has long been Oron’s belief that plaintiff’s true purpose in filing its complaint, its ex parte documents, and its subsequent motions was solely to destroy Oron," Oron attorneys wrote. "Indeed, [Corbin Fisher counsel Marc Randazza] stated in a July 4, 2012 email to Oron’s attorney: 'I prefer to kill Oron altogether and keep all $3 million.'”
Oron attorneys said that because of Corbin Fisher's relentless campaign to incur huge legal bills and because it was provided only $100,000 for business expenses by the court, it can't pay vendors, including its host, LeaseWeb.
"This combination created extraordinary financial stress and achieved the inevitable — Oron’s website has been shut down and, most likely, Oron will lose a majority of its customers," Oron attorneys said.
"[A]llowing that [temporary restraining order] to remain in place any longer than necessary only increases the likelihood that Oron will be unable to salvage and restore at least some part of its business. Oron expects that when it is heard on the facts and law at the preliminary injunction hearing, an injunction will be denied and the TRO vacated."
Oron, in its motion, supports an expedited hearing of the settlement motion only if the hearing on the preliminary injunction is advanced to the same hearing time.
"Each hearing costs money and it will be impossible for Oron to continue to defend itself without further funds," Oron attorneys said. "Forcing Oron to do multiple hearings while not allowing sufficient funds to pay counsel would be unjust."
Meanwhile, Oron filed a separate motion yesterday opposing a request for an evidentiary hearing Thursday at the same time a hearing on a preliminary injunction will he heard.
"[P]ermitting [Corbin Fisher] to present new or additional evidence at the hearing would deprive Oron of a fair opportunity to oppose Liberty Media’s preliminary injunction motion," Oron attorneys said.
Corbin Fisher also has asked the court to include live testimony at the hearing at U.S. District Court in Las Vegas on Thursday.

This Corbin Fisher campaign is reminiscent of an internet DDOS attack. Having previously frozen their assets, they flood the "victim" with a myriad of legal motions!

I'm surprised it's Constitutional - it looks like an abuse of the legal system to me!

Exclamation So really? We're still going to allow Oron?

    Decision has been made:

    http://torrentfreak.com/judge-orders...s-case-120808/

So, 35 million lawsuit goes away, so long as 0ron complies with the original agreed settlement. For those that have forgotten, here's Corbin Fisher's original offer and Oron's counteroffer. Some highlights that I think are notable:

"2. Oron will assist Liberty in identification and civil prosecution of any parties who have been using 0ron to
distribute Liberty’s copyrighted material, including but not be limited to, full disclosure of IP addresses, banking
information, emails and any other information that may assist in Liberty in such prosecution. This will not include
Oron paying any legal costs for such prosecution and/or signing any statements, sworn or otherwise."
We pretty much knew this already, but reading the original settlement wording - still kind hard for me to believe.

"3. Liberty will have unfettered access to takedown / delete any of Liberty’s material that are being distributed
through Oron.com, through Oron.com’s online access, as long as Liberty complies with all notice provisions
articulated by the DMCA takedown, put-up notification."
I thought this was interesting - I wonder if other filehosts have given access like this to other companies if they find their media on their filehosts?

"10. Liberty will assist in providing some public relations help for Oron in order to minimize the chance of other
lawsuits being brought against it. This shall include public statements that we are convinced that 0ron does have
DMCA protection and that 0ron has been following the required take down procedures as stated in the DMCA. It
shall also include Liberty urging other persons or entities that it knows of to contact 0ron directly if there is a
dispute. Liberty will explain to these other parties that 0ron is a good company and always ready to cooperate
    with content creators.."
This one was part of Oron's original counter-offer which I find quite funny.

So yeah - is Phun going to STILL allow a filehost like Oron that is going to sellout uploaders?

Not really upset, just frustrated - mostly because a malicious filehost like Oron who's willing to sellout their uploaders, will probably do it again given the chance. And while they've been offline, once the settlement terms have been met by Oron, they'll be back in business. Does Phun want to support a filehost like that? As a long-time member and contributor to the SVF section, I would like to think not.

For now duffman, they're only going after uploaders as detailed in the settlement offer. Would it surprise me if a company like Oron would sellout downloaders? Not at all - but for now, from a download perspective, you're fairly safe.
