i doubt that oron is the only filehost with more or less serious considerations to "collaborate" with authoroties.
nevertheless - maybe time not to use oron anymore.

Oron isn't - if I remember correctly, Hotfile agreed to a settlement that included sharing some profile information of uploaders, though I believe sharing actual IP addresses was never part of the Hotfile deal.
That's what makes this Oron situation so backstabbing - Oron is going out of their way to share uploader information (email addreses, bank payment transfers, IP addresses) of their uploaders. Hell, they might even share downloader information (though that's a bit harder to track than uploaders). Of course, Oron uploaders were uploading copyrighted material anyways but normally, a filehost would just remove copyrighted files per DMCA protocol. I guess Oron was under such legal duress that they basically said "Fuck it" to their uploaders.

they and the other hosters will likely go the way of music sharing - charge the user with a small fee and pony up to the copyright owners. Owners are happy (+$$), gov't is happy (+$$), hoster is happy (+$$), but users unhappy (-$$)!

At least here, downloading is legal...

I say hoist the colors and go to war against the "East America Trading Company". Cause this is getting just pathetic.

Once a legend, always a legend...
One can only hope so; they're a terrible hosting server.

Would it help (at all) to put the vids in a zip file and p/w protect(& encrypt) the vids?

Well, we can certainly hope so. Nice to see they froze most of their assets.Originally Posted by TheRiver

Good riddance, the little shits. We only wish they'd got 'em sooner.

Any news about oron?
p0rnstar82 (07-22-2012)
This is the last thing I could find on it. Looks like the next court date is around August 11, 2012, Assets are still frozen and it appears they are still trying to determine how many of their customers they plan on "throwing under the bus".

I think it is officially dead now
Are people who just downloaded through Oron and never uploaded anything in trouble? They have no way of tracking what you downloaded do they? (Canada)

Assuming this is accurate, they will be back up and running soon.

Well it's become somewhat interesting - at least as interesting as a filehoster settlement case can get to the general public.
Initially, Oron supposedly agreed to settle with Corbin Fisher & Co., which included the terms of giving up user information (i.e. IP addresses, Paypal accounts, etc.,) as well as a nominal payout. However, Oron is arguing that the terms of this settlement were never agreed upon and are probably not pleased that the terms of the settlement - especially giving up Oron user information - were made public. Both have filed motions of various legal sorts (i.e. questioning regional jurisdiction, motion for a evidentiary hearing, motion to enforce settlement, etc.,) but probably the key one is coming up on August 9th where the court will determine whether the original settlement that Corbin and Oron agreed to is legally standing.
If the court agrees, the motion to Enforce Settlement will be granted whereby Oron must adhere to the original settlement offer that was agreed to with Corbin Fisher & Co. If it doesn't hold up, a number of things could happen - Oron could countersue for libel against Corbin Fisher because of the terms of the settlement were made public, defaming Oron in the eyes of its consumers.
All in all, it's a freaking mess that I really don't care about - the great majority of Oron uploaders are among the worst cashspammers. The fact that Oron tried - and may still - give up IP address and Paypal information on its customers pretty much confirms that detestable type of "company" I've always figured Oron to be. Basically, anyone still uploading to Oron is simply ignorantly dumb or on the Oron company payroll - anyone desperate enough to download from Oron better be using a proxy server to hide their IP address just to be on the safe side.![]()
