Paypal Bans Filehosting Over Piracy Concerns.
In recent weeks, PayPal has cut off many of the world’s largest filehosting sites from its service. Growing concern over copyright infringement has resulted in an extremely strict and in some cases privacy-violating set of requirements being laid down by paypal. They basically wanted access to the backend to monitor all the files being uploaded, and listing all files of users if they wanted. This is a complete invasion of privacy on PayPal’s part, as it’s none of their business what files users keep in their account. no doubt, they have made a deal with the RIAA/MPAA...
This has a paralyzing effect on the file-hosting industry where 90% of the users of some sites pay using PayPal...Previously most file-hosting sites relied heavily on PayPal, but they will now have to switch to alternatives. The next question is whether PayPal’s example will be followed by others such as Visa and Mastercard? and what will be the next payment processor?
I myself at the moment dont use paypal for any of the filehosting sites, i was almost tempted to get a rapidshare premium account but decided against it. I hope this action cripples paypal.

modus operandus obscurus
Sounds like Paypal has gone into cover your ass mode. I doubt dealing with filehosts constitute a large percentage of their business otherwise they wouldn't be going that route. Still, it's definitely a blow to filehost members. Interesting.

Veni, Vidi, Veni
Same thing they did regarding online poker, Paypal first then Visa/Amex/Discover then all the other payment processors and when some independents had the guts to do the processing independently which by the way is NOT against any law, the brick and mortar Casinos flexed a little political muscle and used the jackbooted 'Justice' Department to close them down and arrest the owners and sieze assets regardless of law and they got away with it, you think the MPAA and RIAA didn't see that? Get your feet braced for MANY more arrests Kim Dotcom is just the first and it doesn't matter if they are overseas in sovereign nations or not, MONEY IS GOD and those who have it will use it to keep it.
