I'm thinking about creating some new GF rules with the consent of the rest of the staff. As it stands these are the existing General Forum Rules:

Since the general forum is where most heated debates usually occur it is imperative that you follow the rules and guidelines of this forum.

1. If a thread is up for debate, attack the opinion not the author.

2. This is not a news forum. Only post news articles that you think the other members can interact with. If I wanted to read the news or read "news of the weird" I would go here - www.yahoo.com.

3. No site ripping/hacking tools allowed on this board.

We've all discussed #1 before, ad infinitum. It's often violated and disrespected and will forever continue to be so. One of these days I may start handing out bans on a regular basis. Food for thought.

#2 is sort of ambiguous, not sure why it even exists.

#3 isn't even on the radar.

So here's where you guys come in ~

#4. Specific or Themed Topics: Do not post multiple threads with a similar theme. If you feel inclined to post regularly on a topic that you feel strongly about create a thread with a generalized title (e.g. The Nose Pickers Thread; Stupid People Piss Me Off Thread; etc) and post only related subjects in that thread. By doing so you will mitigate discontent among members who feel multiple threads touching on the same topic are irritating. There are a number of established threads dedicated to a variety of topics so search before you post.

[This rule does not apply to New Members who wish to create an introductory thread, as opposed to posting in This Thread]

#5. Do not open a thread and then ceaselessly complain about the topic because you find it annoying. If you have nothing constructive to add then add nothing. You will be doing everyone a favor.

#6. If you have a personal issue with another member who hasn't actually broken the rules, do not go whining to the Mod Staff about said member. This is an adult social forum, not a kindergarten. Settle your differences in private via PM if possible or just ignore them and/or their posts. This can best be accomplished by using the Ignore List (Settings > Edit Ignore List > Add a Member to Your List...)

In #5 where is the line as far as good humored ribbing is concerned? "If you have nothing constructive to add then add nothing" seems like leaves no leeway in that regard.

I say eliminate rules 2 and 3, and add a new one that states "do not bother the mods unless rule number one has actually been broken"

Good humored ribbing is mutually exclusive to that rule. Know what I mean?

I agree with this one, Why do we have two spamming threads? I mean I like to spam pics as much as the next guy, but two threads for the same thing is pointless even if one is only for pictures.

Image spamming is just that, images. No words necessary.

I've been asked several times why we need 2 chat threads, the Igloo and mine, ADD. Well guess what? People like options. What works in the Igloo may not go over so well in ADD - and vice versa. Variety is the spice of life.

That's what the problem would be, somebody would have to decide what is just playful and what is whining, seems like it would cause more problems then it would solve.

Besides, when you've been around a while (as you have) you get to know who is cool and who is a fuckwit. If I have any doubt I start a PM convo and find out for sure.

I am going to start a new image thread. There is a proper image thread (Riv's excellent one), the spam image thread (fun but gets spammed so quickly that anything interesting you post gets buried under a mountain of ladies) So I want an image thread that isn't for spamming and not for images that are profound and moving like Rivs. Just an interesting image thread. So there is a need/want for different things in phun.

I dont know about the wording. I have been mulling it over and I'm not particularly fond of the rule. Rules should be clearly understandable by all. No bending or pliability. This is an area that can be too often interpreted differently from person to person. Ultimately you, or another mod would decide when the line is crossed. Theres nothing concrete in that. In order to observe the line, it should be clearly visible at all times.

Everything people post is a great big fuckin' gray area, except for those posts which are up front blatant in what the poster is trying to convey, so yes, discretion on the part of staff is necessary. But there are those members who just won't let something go. It applies across the board, but mostly in the GF and Celeb forums where chat and commenting is most common. And yes, we get PMed constantly. For the most part (in my experience) it's constructive. But then there are others I'd like to say "fuck off" to, but I don't. At least not so tersely.
