I read that book. It was not easy reading.

 

Although the book has been out for years, his publisher ought to use that entire photo in a new promotion campaign. I'll bet sales would surge.

I tried reading that book as a teenager. From what I remember I got to page three and then completely lost the plot. It was the typical highschool math effect: "If a car is doing 50kmh and the temperature is above 20 Celsius then the car's color is green (wat?). So given Iceland's latitude, it is easy to see why Mars has this particular heliocentric orbit (Fig 3)." And of course Figure 3 does absolutely nothing to explain the leaps of reasoning that the author seems to take for granted, but noone's bothered to explain to you.

I read it shortly after it was published when I was 25 or 26. I only had a passing interest in physics at the time so that's exactly how it read. I muddled through though.
