How do you pretend to be a painter?

 

Other meaning, not painting walls i guess - and with 'modern art' looks like it's common, too many of 'em not only ain't Picassos (who actually did several 'pretty good' 'classical' style paintings at ripe old age of 15) but bring question 'did (s)he ever learned to paint at all?''.

 

I know several painters, some better than others, which is subjective, yet none of them "pretend" to be painters. Not everyone can be Picasso or Dali or Monet.

 

It's when you are famous for one thing but shit at it so pretend tobe an "artist" by painting. And then realise that you are also shit at painting. Did you really need that spelled out or are you just gong to white knight for the rest of your life.

 

Talented people can be mult-talented. Doesnt mean that they are equally good at everything. Also, she has the right to change her career. She was an actress but now she is an artist. That doesnt make it pretend. I’m a policy analyst after spending 15 years as a mailman. Does thay mean I’m pretending to be a policy analyst! Nawwwww!

 

I agree. As long as she is actually painting then she's a painter. (A commercially successful painter...that's another debate.)

As opposed to, say, people who pretend to be writers but spend their entire day at Starbucks bemoaning the fact that they are "still waiting for the muse to hit me."

Painters paint, writers write, coffee drinkers drink coffee (and are not writers unless they actually write.)

 

I was pretty much just being a dismissive dick. I mean she *could* be good.

 

I hope she'll return to acting.

I've never seen her work so I couldn't say.

 

Well, she has had multiple gallery shows in NY and London, and I'm sure it is completely based on merit and has nothing to do with having a rich husband and being a known actress (I'm still being a dick )
