I saw "Dark Phoneix"

Spoiler: Dark Phoenix Review

Finally saw "Dark Phoenix", after about 15 minutes in I kept saying to myself.

"I've seen this before".

I had in "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) only better with Adults and actors in the leading roles.

Apparently the Dark Phoneix stories are legend in the X:Men Comics.

I enjoyed "Last Stand", but "Dark Phoneix" was like something out of the 1950s Hollywood when they produced "B" Movies.

I kept saying to myself "Why have they made this?", obviously megabucks, but not exactly the return they were hoping for.
Budget $200MM, Opening US Weekend $33MM, Gross US & Canada $66MM, to date Worldwide $252MM.

Good things about it, Michael Fasbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult (James McAvoy never did it for me as Xavier)
but they all looked really out of place in a movie that was more like Teen X.

The rest of the cast was really one dimensional, but in fairness, they weren't helped by a laughable script with some of the worse dialogue.
saved for the romance between Jean Grey and Cyclops.

Jennifer Lawrences "Raven" was lucky to be killed off early in the movie.

Which brings me to Sophie Turner, ever wonder why Sansa had so little to do in S6 of GOT?
Apart from that is speeches to Camera, but never going into battle?

To me, it becomes really apparent why in "Dark Phoenix".

She said in interviews "I only had to stand in front of a green screen for a month and wave my arms around".
She shows how difficult it is to do that, and how real professionals make it look real.

I hated her "American" accent (what happened to all the really talented young American Actors?).
Yes, this was having a "Name" coming off the end of GOT.

But to me, it says a lot when the Young Jean Grey (the very talented Summer Fontana) was more believable than the adult Jean.

Sophie Turner is very good at being Sophie Turner, less so as an actor.

I remember saying to friends "She's really wooden in GOT", they said to me, "Oh that's the character of Sansa".

Then I saw her in "Josie".

I have a resting bitch face, she has a resting bored face.

The aliens were seen it all before, the end battle scenes on the train were good, but again seen it all before.

Terrible dialogue, wooden script and most of all seen it all before, only it had been done much better.

If this had been the original cast Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellan they might have been able to rescue it simply by their presence.

But "Dark Phoenix" is clearly a sign that everything had already been told that could be told in this franchise.

Simon Kinberg, wrote, directed and produced "Dark Phoenix".

I wouldn't boast about it

Saw this and wondered when X-Men got this kind of content for a sec before realizing its a GoT gif Curious as to why you would use this gif, unless there were people in the distance screwing as you tried to watch this (I've had to deal with that before)

Anyway, I'm a bit surprised you gave it as good a rating as you did. You are a fairly strict critic of the arts after all. And I personally have always hated the Dark Phoenix storylines. But then again, you pointed out that not everyone was terrible in it, just the lead and the regurgitated story(which had just been done a few years prior).

Now go watch it again just to make sure

 

I was being very kind with 5 and most of that went to Michael Fassbender,.

The moaning came from the audience watching "Dark Phoenix" and saying

"Noooooooooooooooooo".

 

 not exactly a reaction actors want lol. I'm picturing you watching this and doing that, so sorry
