never a good thing, since i'm slacking today i'm sure shit will pile up tomorrow but that will be something i worry about then, today i'm coasting until 4 then off to the bar for a while

i donate most of mine to my freezer, i respect the guys that donate it to the hungry but some years i can stock my freezer and barely spend any money at the store on meat, i've got a buddy that refuses to eat any meat he didn't shoot(or at least know the person who did)

Yep, but not all season. I can't remember the exact dates, I'll have to look them up. It's only for about 1 1/2 months I think. They stopped it for awhile until the dear population grew so much. Population control. We also have a weekend when it's legal to kill doe - although I never do.

well i should take that back, it is on a plentiful year that i donate meat to charity. I make sure mine is full first before i donate any. Like one year there was a bumper crop of pheasants, so after i had 30 in the freezer i gave the rest that season to charity. I musta given away several dozen birds including chuckers and pheasants that year. last year was slow.

there are rules/guidelines in place to prevent over hunting, and as far as defenseless animals, i've never heard of such a thing

I would be but until they perfect the art of mycoprotein it is far more trouble than it is worth , especially as I dont want to be fat from eaty fatty protein I can but wait

 

Well that is the misconception of most non-hunters. But the fact of the matter is hunters pay billions upon billions of dollars to have biologists to go out there and survey the federal land to determine what is the appropriate harvest level for certain areas. With most predators wiped out it is up to the hunters to make sure the population stays at a sustainable level. That is why we have quotas issues out by the government to make sure the animal population stays at a healthy level. The extra billions of dollars we put into hunting through licenses goes to manage and buy more land back from private citizens to turn into federally protected land. Since the original Clinton administration those monies have been diverted to pet projects such as HUD etc.

the snail has a hard shell. That and they have a sticky slime that prevents some animals from eating them. But besides that who is to say that steak you had last night didn't come from a pen raised cow cruelly injected with 42 different hormones?

I don't hunt snails, someone else catches them and I just buy them at the store, but seriously, i know what you meant

And melon states it perfectly, at least with hunting the animal is in it's natural habitat and stands a better chance of surviving
