Nothing personal against this woman, but if you were to time-travel back 50 years & show them this SI model, they would be shocked.

 

If you go back to the 60s when SI first started the swimsuit edition there would still be segregation, gay people wouldn't have the same freedom to marry as everyone else in certain states, womens place would be in the kitchen or home raising kids rather than at work..etc. I think many people from back then would be shocked to see where things are now, even if we still have much further to go. I dont think peoples shock qualifies as a reason for us to go back to the way things were. Your opinion matters as much as anyone elses and I dont see a reason to not include someone based on a superficial reasoning that shes "too fat". Its far too subjective of a reasoning.

 

I'm not disagreeing there's been a lot of social progress since the 60s, but sadly the global obesity rates aren't one of them. I think SI using such a large woman in a swimsuit is social propaganda to pretend like it's sexy being very overweight & unhealthy. This didn't use to be accepted, outside of those with a BBW fetish.

 

People can be whatever weight they want and they are also free to like what they want, but I'm not a huge fan of normalizing obesity, any more than I am of normalizing anorexia and eating disorders. At the end of the day though, it's SI's magazine. If this sells them more copies or gets them the social media buzz they want, they'll keep doing it.
