Thanks for the gif. I am sure you know this, but it wasn't clear from the description - Amy Adams is in this gif, but the deceased wife in this gif is played by Isla Fisher.

 

Any idea if Isla used a body double like she did in Wedding Crashers?

 

I am not sure if she does use a body double in Nocturnal Animals. From memory, the sequence is framed so you don't actually see anything of Isla's body, just her face. It is Ellie's body that is seen. Ellie is at the front of the sofa with her ass facing the camera, Isla is out of shot behind Ellie, apart from the closeup of her face.

I read somewhere way back when that Amy Adams was the one whose rear is facing the the camera.

This can be verified when the sheriff examines their heads for wounds. This is Amy Adam's eye. Maybe it is a body double, do not know.

I edited to include Isla because of the uncertainty. There are other parts of the film when "real" vs "imagined" life is confused. While dreaming of revenge, the husband imagines his daughter being raped and the man raping the daughter is Michael Shannon, the sheriff.

 

Ahh, you mean that it might be Amy Adams in the daughter's place, instead of Ellie Bamber, and her eye that is shown when the Sheriff checks the daughter? That's possible. It is definitely Isla's face that is seen when the Sheriff checks the wife, but it is not her ass that is being shown - that is either Ellie, Amy or a body double. Unsettling film though. I watched it alone in an empty movie theatre at midnight. Not a comfortable watch.
