    Morning all.

It's not the Aussie way though, mate.

We slap our meat on the barbie, so to speak, burn it to hell, then wrap it in bread with copious amounts of tom sauce (or ketchup, to you).

It's an Aussie tradition, and i adore it.

    De gustabus non disputandum...

I prefer our way, but you all sure do know your way around a sausage roll. And without inserting myself into the "did Oz or NZ create pavlova?" debate, those things are bloody delicious too. And Sam Kekovich is right, a good leg of lamb is fantastic.

    Haha

How on earth do you know about Sam Kekovich? He's an annoying twat, but his message is right.

Most Americans barely know we exist, let alone about Sam, sausage rolls or pavs.

BTW You don't have sausage rolls and meat pies over there? They are a gift from god, when done well.

Pavs rock too. With plenty of whipped cream, peaches and strawberries.

I have good friends from Oz who live here, and his commercials are all on Youtube so they've shown them all to me.

They're not common, but you can get what my friends say are pretty good ones from here: http://www.australianbakery.com/ They're in georgia but they pack on dry ice and ship around the country. We had a load of 'em for Australia Day this year, along a couple cases of Redback (courtesy of the Oz embassy--usually you can only get Foster's (ugh) over here although you can occasionally find Cooper's and Jim Boag at Total Beverage or World Market), a leg of lamb, and a bunch of assorted Violet Crumbles and such.

And we had one of those from the local New Zealand cafe: http://www.yelp.com/biz/cassatts-cafe-and-gallery-arlington

    Good stuff, sj, i'm impressed.

Fosters is no better than cat piss. It's only famous because we inflicted it on foreigners rather than having to drink it ourselves.

Coopers are brilliant beers, well worth getting and far stronger/nicer than any of the big US (or Aussie) brands.

I'd like to try some good small brand US beer, because the big name stuff is atrocious compared to our stuff.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the best of the really mass-produced stuff (I'm not a fan of the "American-style lagers" like Budweiser, Miller, Coors, etc).

Anchor Steam is pretty available (and Anchor Liberty Ale); the Steam Ale is a sort of unique style--uses top-fermenting lager yeasts but brews at ale temperatures for a interesting (and uniquely American AFAIK) effect. If you want to try something that's truly American, that's your pick.

We can do other styles well though.

If you like Pale Ales, Sierra's really not bad and you can get it all over the place. Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA is great--anything from Dogfish Head is likely to be interesting, though some are failures they're all worth trying once.

Stoudt's makes a good Pils, and Weeping Radish Corolla Gold is an excellent Helles lager.

Allagash White is an excellent Belgian-style white out of Maine but sort of tough to find, though it's getting more popular on tap at some bars on the east coast. It's a live bottle (yeast still going) which is uncommon here.

Blue Moon is another Belgian white, not as good but widely available (Coors owns them now but they started off indie and use the old recipe). There are a couple really great Hefeweizens out (Penn, Sprecher) and some decent ones that are more widely available (Red Hook, Widmer).

I've not found a good native cream stout (a la Guinness, Beamish, Murphy's, etc), though there are a fair number of decent oatmeal stouts around (I'm not a huge fan of the oaties so I don't recall the brands, sadly).

There's a ton of other stuff I love that's imported, and usually I'll try anything I haven't had before once. I'm lucky that our area has the Brickskellar bar(1000 different kinds of beer in bottles), RFD tap room (31 different beers on tap), the Lost Dog Cafe (400 types of bottles, all available to go as well), and Total Wine and Beverage (maybe 600 types of beer to go and several thousand wines).

Salty Longshanks has the Great Lost Bear up toward him, though. That is beer heaven--57 different regular taps and 3 cask-conditioned hand pumps, and they change their lineup pretty regularly. And good food to boot.

Also I don't think that's fair. 10 years ago if you'd asked what the capital of Australia was most American's would've said Sydney and if you'd asked for the national anthem they'd have said Waltzing Matilda.

But nowadays most people know that the capital is Melbourne and the anthem is Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport.

I knew your capitol but not the anthem. I don't know anyone else's anthem besides ours though.

Well, since it's so damn slow again I'm out - have a great weekend all!

Canberra and Advance Australia Fair. You probably know God Save the Queen and maybe Oh Canada (from sporting events) and you'd probably recognize La Marseillaise (France) even if you don't know it by name.

    You too!

It was 10.40pm, you're right. I'm never normally on at that time, apart from a Friday or Saturday night when I don't go out. I'd just done to my brother's to watch a DVD and did a quick phun surf before bed, I was really tired.

Another day begins, I don't think I'll be doing much. How are we all?
