Just read up a little on that, seems to me you would have problems with humidity in the house with that kind of heat/air.

Not at all....Had hot water heat since I left my parents house when I was a young shaver, and no issues. Up here this time of year, it actually puts a good amount of humidity into the house. The air outside in this weather is dry as a popcorn fart! lol

I was referring to geothermal heat pumps. It would seem to me that it would have to have a dehumidifying process before it pumped the air in your house.

We'd usually put a big pot of water on top of the wood stoves to help get some moisture in the air. We had no air conditioning at all except 1 window unit for the den when it got really hot out.

I heard of people doing that. Down here, we have just the opposite - it's so friggin humid it's unbelieveable. The newer heat pumps here have dehumidifiers built in them.

I'm not schooled enough in the tech to speak on it too much bama. I don't know if they use Freon dryers (or whatever the acceptable coolant is now) in the systems or not.

Yeah I live in DC now and we take moisture out (central AC/heat pump). Cold air holds very little humidity, though, so like I said in Maine winters we'd put a pot of water on the wood stove downstairs (upstairs we ran a humidifier).

Wood stoves were pretty much mandatory since they work if the power goes out--big ice storms occasionally take down power lines, and we were far enough out that it wasn't that uncommon to lose power for 4-5 days (probably happened 3-4 times in the 20 years I lived up there). You could pretty much count on at least one 24-hour period without power every winter--thank goodness for camp stoves and kerosene lights! We'd keep a couple 5-gallon jugs of water in the basement for emergencies (we were on a well with an electric pump, so no power = no running water).

You must have been up here for the big boy in 96' was it?
We were without power for seven days, and used the kitchen (gas :() stove for heat. Thank God that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away! lol :p

Yep. That and Hurricane Gloria are the 2 times we were down for over a week, but we were far enough out of town that even smaller stuff often left us without power longer than most people.

The thing that screwed us was a transformer that blew in front of the house. Everyone around us was lit up like a Christmas tree.

We actually had a blizzard here in either 92 or 93, can't remember. 14 inches of snow in like 14 hours or something crazy like that. It thundering and lightning am the same time it was snowing....freaked me the hell out. I didn't know that was even possible. We were out of power for 7 days, that sucked big time. The house I lived in at the time didn't have a fire place so we shacked up with the in-laws since thiers did. Luckily we didn't have any kids yet.

I don't have a generator :( We lose power a few times a year here but it's usually only out for a maximum of 8 - 10 hours unless it's a major hit. Tornados and/or straight line winds do the damage in the spring around these parts.

8-10 hours up here in Jan/Feb can mean the difference between warmth/water, and heating/plumbing system replacement if you aren't around.
Best money I ever spent. ;)
