It's more in jest, than anything else.

Basically, Australia and England are fierce rivals in most things, sport especially (even though we bitchslap their pasty white arses everytime).

Behind the rivalry and constant pisstaking is a fair respect though, i think.

    Not celebrated here, at all.

Basically in Melbourne Good Friday is a big deal, both for religious reasons and because it's the day we do the 'Good Friday Appeal', where we all raise money for the city's childrens hospital.

Easter Sunday is also celebrated a bit, but mainly just because that's when kids get their Easter Eggs (and i eat way too many hot cross buns).

ah, sounds like our rivalry in foolball with Auburn. Two large schools with well respected athletic programs in the same state that doesn't have a pro football team - one of if not the biggest rivalry in college football.

Only Good Friday and Easter Sunday are observerd as a babtist, don't know about other religions.

Pommy or poms, is just what we call English people, just Aussie slang.
It is used as a term of endearment, usually.

And git is just a mildly offensive (almost humourous) slang insult used a lot in England.
It's basically like calling someone an idiot, if a little less offensive.

The term 'pommy git' is a pretty common description of Englishmen here in Australia.

    Yep, that's about it.

It's just a relatively inoffensive way we describe English people.

    Bye bama.

It's a really friendly language, too. Tough to not like someone after a hearty g'day.

In vaguely related news, the world market near me is carrying Bundaberg rum and ginger beer now. :)

Ginger beer ain't beer, it's like a ginger flavored soda. Sort of like ginger ale but much more ginger. Good stuff, and I've got the rum for getting buzzed.

    cya later

I'm back to save the day, abe.

I'm glad to say it was a successful trip in terms of finding some hot cross buns.
