your girl brings up great points. tell her i say thanks. yeah my gf is awesome and i love her. she has nothin to worry about it. it's nothing i wouldn't see at any beach. just so happens to be online though. mainly, i thought it would be an entertaining question to pose to you all at this hour.

i have LOTS of friends that are girls and it's not uncommon for them to ask me girly type questions from a guy's perspective because i'm honest and will give real opinions on stuff. i guess you could say i'm more "in touch" than the stereotypical guy. yeah that sounds gay. oh well.

The thing that sucks is that there's such a stigma against the box that you never get good wine in it. It'd be a perfect way to sell fine wines: those bags collapse as you dispense, so you don't get excess oxygen in them and they can last for several days without the wine starting to turn (a lot better than those vacuum-pump rubber resealing corks).

But because of the connotations, you only get junk wine in them

Now, wine doesn't age in them--I'm not advocating that. But for decent widely available wines, selling them in a box after they've aged a while would be great. Too bad it will never happen.

 

Around here it's illegal for the staff to even buy a drink for a customer (the owner can, but staff can't), let alone drink with them. That said, sometimes they'll take a shot w/ you in a smaller bar. And comp'ing is rampant.

And some bartenders I know will pour themselves a shot of water to pretend it's vodka so they can avoid pissing of the crowd that insists they drink together.

In South America, bartenders drinking with the customers was absolutely standard practice.

 

well, the bar where i work is pretty laid back. while you are not encouraged to drink and are definitely not allowed to be drunk, taking an occasional shot with a customer who offered it is allowed.

of course doesn't stop some from getting completely belligerent while working.

 

Its not possible to make fine wine in a box. A good wines flavor comes from wood barrels or steel.

 

haha woah there... it's just a girl in a bikini. i see that in the k-mart catalog. i do get what you are saying though. i know this girl really well. she isn't just some random person. we are good friends and hang out all the time. she is just a cool person that trusts me and wanted my opinion. i'm sure of it. i dramatized the story a little bit to make things interesting at 3 am. my bad! thanks for the opinions everybody. no worries here. i know when a girl is really trying to flirt, seduce, etc.

good question. my gf would not get annoyed. even if she KNEW this other girl was interested in me, my gf would just laugh because she'd get a kick out of it. that's how secure she is.

i've had insecure gf's before, and it ain't pretty. i know how that goes.

In an ideal world, some decent popular wines would be sold in boxes (really, collapsing bags) for mid-week use. Ferment in barrel, maybe age in bottles (or barrels), sell in boxes. There are _tons_ of good wines sold for home use that are not expected to be laid down for more than a month or two after they're sold. Put some of those in boxes, and they'll hold up a lot better for people who have a glass or two a night for a few nights.
