I tend to see God in these terms:

Let's say you, Salty Longshanks, are God (Don't let it go to your head ;)). Let's say humanity is represented by protozoa.

Do you really care what a bunch of paramecium think of you? I wouldn't.

I'm all for making this world a better place, a place where you can feel safe at night knowing your doors are unlocked and shit like that. I just don't think religion is quite the answer were after, it's on the right track but not quite.

And I hope the old man put the smack on your ass when you got out of line ( like the rest of us)?

The rest of it sounds great ant man. I ask only because I'm sure I'm much older than you, and half the problem with my country, the USA, is political correctness, and parenting being passed on to lib/socialist teachers, and all responsibility being removed from the home, which is where it belongs. ;)

Real values. Real mores. Those are the things that are truly important. Never forget them and no matter what, you'll sleep a little better at night.
I'm not going anywhere with that. I'm merely saying that the etymology of the word patriotism has its roots in the word father, or fatherland where it's applied to nationalism. There is no hidden meaning in what I'm saying.

Oh I got smacked, I got the belt from my dad and the wooden spoon from my mum. So many broken wooden spoons

Yeah I don't know what happened, no one really is a parent now. You can't smack your kids because of child protection laws and shit. Teachers are afraid of students because where the authority and power used to be with the teachers it's all with the students now, all a student has to say is they hit me or whatever and the teachers fucked.

Also I learned not to be greedy, nothing worse than a greedy person who wants more than they need. But yeah when and if I father some children some day I will pass on those values.

no argument, I am just to tired and tipsy to provide responses of substance. I shall let those with the sharp minds continue. I find it interesting but cannot put together thoughts fast enough to keep up and post.

Religion is not about making the world a better place. At least, not the large organized religions. Most organized religions are more akin to Sovietism than so-called "paganism", which was a way of being more attuned to one natural surroundings. Pagan, by the way, is a form of the Greek word meaning rural, or of the countryside.
You oversimplified things methinks. It goes far deeper than that, but can't be discussed in depth weithout going into politics, which I don't care to do and you would roundly prefer not. maybe if we we're sitting in a bar, having drinks and just shootin' the shit, that would be different. :D
Put on yer hip waders then! :p

I ment religion is a good way of getting a group of people to work towards a goal, that goal should be to fix this planet of sorts greenhouse gases and global warming. That what I ment by they are sort of on the right track, they can get the people to follow them but not for the right goal.

I know better my man. I rule/oversee nothing but my lungs (cough), and my liver (swollen). ;)

You know it as well as I do scribe man......I don't know your age, but I'm assuming that like me, your a little older than most of our bros here, and you were most likely raised with some amount of religion in your life as a yout.
Like it, or not, (and I didn't) it was forced down my throat. (no pole smoking jokes needed you bastards lol). As I got older (my teen years) I began to question it all, and none of it made sense to me, especially with the absence of any tangible proof. I was then, and am now "cut from the cloth" where I need to see it, or lay hands on it to believe it. I take nothing away, or mean any offense to anyone that's a believer that may read this, I've just been downtrodden, and stomped on too many times by women, and life in general to buy into it anymore. Granted, a lot of it was probably poor choices on my part, but when you watch friends die at 18-20 years old, and see what's happening to people in other parts of the world........it tends to question one's faith. :(

And they will be better for it, you can be certain. :D

So it's that bad down under as well then. :( Political correctness is going to be the death of us all. :(
The kids here in the States can no longer play tag, or dodgeball because it's "too violent", they don't keep score in the organized games at the schools because "some of the children will feel bad about themselves".....besides the fact that it makes me sick to my stomach, these fucking libs/socialists are destroying our country, and raising an entire generation of uneducated pussies, that need to be coddled every step of the way. To any phun bros from Eastern Europe that may be reading this, I understand you've been there done that. To me, and my country, socialism is new, and quite vivid on the horizon. :(

Not tonight dude......I've depressed myself enough already. :(

    I'm 45.

I was raised Methodist but it wasn't in any way strict. My grandpa on my mother's side was a minister and just an absolute joy to be around. No fire and brimstone preacher he. Religion was pretty much a Sunday only kind of thing in my house, otherwise there was never any discussion of God or Jesus or what any of that shit meant. Sunday meant Sunday school for me or the church service for my older siblings. My dad sung in the choir because he really enjoyed it - he was a great baritone btw.

My mom, on the otherhand, stayed home and watched the ball games and fixed up a hell of a sunday dinner. :D

I never took any of it seriously, but it took awhile once I was out on my own to shake off the subtle paranoia those Sunday school teachers instilled in me with all their talk of heaven and hell and where you would end up if you didn't abide by the word.

I'm an atheist now, a result of being a pragmatic cynic. And that's the way I like it. :p
