That's not actually correct.

Deepfakes, AI or even an unedited image/video claiming to be of somebody - and uploaded without their consent, is also grounds for a DMCA takedown request.

 

Usually there is a statement made clarifying they are fake though (e.g. Taylor Swift).

I saw a Reddit thread from a few months ago where a lot of people think that celebrity nudes and sex tapes have not leaked in the past 10 years. Here is one of the comments:

Did these people not hear about The Fappening 2.0 in 2017 and the Bella Throne incident in 2019? Celebrity nudes and sex tapes continued to leak constantly post-Fappening. Cultural norms have not changed much either since celebrity nude leak sites get millions of monthly visitors and The Fappening is fondly remembered by many (hence why it is still generally called “The Fappening”). The media just doesn’t report on this stuff like they use to.

 

There was a steady flow of leaks prior to 2014, even. We got scarjo, Olivia Munn, and others, years before the Fappening.

In fact, that guy got arrested and convicted before that ever happened. We learned there was a list of like 50 victims or something.

But the Fappening is the first time it happened all at once. And all due respect to 2.0, it’s also the last time.

Yup, it became a massive Streisand effect due to their legal teams and not at all because of billions of threads, searches and people (ok mostly dudes probably) reposting it and mainstream media had that awesome "4chan hacker" episode going on for a while.

 

Overall, computer security is a bit tighter now than it was 10 years ago. That's not entirely related to the leaks of stuff on clouds/phones, but it has to be a factor. Who knows what it's like in a year with W10 ending and a bunch of people unable to get to W11.

As for the Ariana outtakes. It would have been cheaper for her to just draw on her hands with a pen.

That isn’t a Streisand effect. The Streisand effect refers to when someone tries to suppress information but it backfires and results in it getting more attention instead. The celebrities and their teams confirming that the nudes/sex tapes are of them and then telling people not to look at the leaks was a classic Streisand effect, because that confirmation caused the mainstream media to report on it.

 

Speaking of arrests and convictions, I don’t think the FBI even tried to investigate who was behind Fappening 2.0.

 

My guess is that all/most of what came out had already been circulating since 1.0, and those guys were already behind bars at that point. Im pretty sure the Avril previews are from 1.0.

Also, even the Fappening arrests weren’t widely reported. Only that first guy who leaked Scarjo and the rest got national headlines, IIRC.

 

The hackers who were arrested weren’t the ones who leaked the sexts though. They were part of a larger group of hackers who called themselves “collectors”, and they shared the stolen sexts with themselves until some of them decided to leak them in August/September 2014 for profit.

So the collectors who started both Fappenings are still at large. Wouldn’t be surprised if some of them were behind other celebrity sext leaks.

 

That’s not quite right. I was around the scene back then, and the hackers didn’t leak content. They traded it. But you didn’t need to be a hacker to trade. You just needed someone to throw you a set to get you started. Eventually, some of those traders started selling their sets. Even selling individual pics. The buyers were the ones dumping sets on forums and image boards.

I know one or two main guys got locked up over it, but I know for a fact there were dozens of guys who got OC sets on their own.

 

Interesting. I watched fern’s video on the subject and I think he mentioned that you needed to submit your own stolen celebrity sext to get in the club or something. And one of the sellers decided to leak all the context at once. There even a screenshot of “OriginalGuy” saying that somebody fucked it all up.

 

I haven’t seen that, but I’ll check it out. I wasn’t a hacker, but I did talk to a few and was in the trading scene. Also was not aware that one seller had leaked everything, but when things started leaking I got the fuck out of there.

I was deep in the trading scene back before the fappening happened and was in that chatovod/volafile group with all the big names but deleted everything once shit started leaking. I can tell you a bunch of the sets being mentioned are pure bullshit. But there are a few that are real and fantastic.

 

which ones are real? we can torture ourselves knowing we will never see them LOL

 

The collectors are like modern day Robin Hoods. Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor!
