Yep, confessed it in his book; when they were Ellen they had a long-standing thing for Kate (understandable lol) who had a boyfriend at the time, and the boyfriend of Kate's actually noticed that and that Kate had feelings beyond friendship back, and him and Kate talked about it and he gave her permission to see what all there was between them, while remaining a couple BTW, and next thing you know they're doing the My Days Of Mercy scenes years before that movie even happened lol (which explains why those scenes were so damn hot, they already had that specific experience with each other ). They had a pretty steamy affair for awhile before Elliots own personal stuff, like the gender questions among other things, made it so it wasn't feasible to continue. Yet they remain the best of friends, even though the end of their sexual relationship caused strife for a while because they were apparently falling or had already fallen in love. Obviously Kate allowed this to be published, I think she even attended a book signing. Kate has remained a staunch ally of Elliot through everything, she may be a wealthy nepo but she's a solid human overall.
