@bobbibob I watched for a while... This is a topic "Self-made GIFs only". Among "your" gifs there are mine from a years ago.
Some have my marks from back then... And it doesn't really matter if they are mine or someone else's.

I saw a member of another forum sharing gifs that weren't his, that were from members of this forum, and you seem to be either him or you're taking what he's sharing.
I appreciate the great contribution of your posts, but self-made and self-copy-paste are not the same thing.
I don't want you to think anything wrong, but I know about my posts, and also about the posts of some of the regular participants in this topic. If the topic changes its name and purpose, then that's fine. But as far as I know, duplication never is.

I get it if the gifs have identifying watermarks or something, but how can you tell who made a gif? It could come from the same video clip and multiple people are making the same gif unknowingly.

A bunch of ways could help identify it. The exact same crops, the same dimensions, exact same file size, exact same frames, same speed......

Also, If we both made a gif from the same video with the same dimensions and crop and frames but used different programs the MB size would be different.

It can be hard to tell but there are ways. I havent looked into the situation on the previous page and probably wont I'm just saying the above to answer your question.

Soon as I post anything I delete the originals off my phone/computer/tablet to save room. So I have nothing to compare new gifs to. Plus idgaf if someone reposts the things I stole from others to post here.

    @Spiderswims explained.

Check out his post from a few hours ago...

    yesterday
There are a bunch of posts like this. The essence of the topic is a self-made gif and I don't understand why this is not respected.
Sorry, but this has to stop immediately.

I moved the discussion to a new thread to unclutter the GIF thread.

now that the thread was split I feel more free to ad my two cents...

as a moderator on several boards I've noticed how members (everywhere) tend to be lazy on the brain power and most tend to mix "self made" (by oneself) and "self made(by someone) then web found" into "this is where you share the GIFs"

the staff created that thread to unclog the sections of the many GIFs that slowed down the threads but going further as checking all the posts for duplicates (or "borrowed") GIFs on top of checking for banned content is a huge lot of overwork ... that's why the report a problem thread was created ;)

I always assumed we were on the honour system, but if people are just copying other people's efforts then call them out. I can't remember if the lounge has a "found" gif thread or something similar.

I would like to apologise for posting any GIFS created by others, I do create my own but have also use other people's that I have found else where. Personally I do not have an issue with people using my posts elsewhere but I realise this is an issue for others and I will respect that and not do it again, if allowed to post on the gif forum it will be all my own work.

    Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I don't think you understand the point. Neither I nor anyone else is asking you not to post on the forum.

Simply, just like someone writing something in another thread that has nothing to do with the topic, this "it's mine, but not quite..." post misses the point of the thread. And "those" others are not others, we are members of this forum as you.
The fact that someone shares content from here on other forums cannot be an excuse. It's not just you, we're all exposed to it. and what's most pointless is that there are members here who don't follow what's being posted, so they repost from those places that are full of our content back, i.e. here.
The most important thing is that that someone is there, and we are here. And from my experience, there is more mutual respect here than anywhere else.

    Any new content is welcome.

Consider going through your old posts in that thread and deleting anything that's not self-made. If you want a clean slate, I can bulk delete all your posts in that thread.

Adding my 2 cents, I don't really mind unless it's blatant theft, like going out of your way to say "I made this" while you take something from elsewhere, which it doesn't seem like was what happened in the main case which led to this thread. Mistakes happen, it wasn't done with malice as far as anyone can tell, so hopefully there won't be hard feelings from anyone.

I make GIFs BTW, but they're just for me cause I am an amateur with minimal tools lol. Maybe one day I'll share some from my external hard drive archive.

If you see gifs on other sites and then download the original video/tvshow/movie, edit it, gif it then you can post them. If you take gifs from other sites and dont want to do that work then just keep them for your self. The thread is titled "Celebrity GIF Thread - (Self-made GIFs only)" so it should be obvious you should only post ones that you make yourself. If you take gifs from this site and then repost them here that's a little fuckin nuts.

edit: Obviously what is more likely to happen is someone takes stuff from here, posts it at another forum, you take it from where they posted and then post it here. One of the main reasons it's for self-made gifs only.

We can't ask members to search through hundreds of pages or remember everything posted and that's why we allow multiple versions of gifs from different members as long as they make it themselves.

This isn't just about this situation cause it's happened a few times over the years. Other than that I think everything else has been said.

I would suggest something else when the discussion about gifs is already open. :)

We should consider limiting the size of gifs on external image hosts. I noticed earlier that some gifs are unusually large compared to the size of the video (which is usually both longer and higher resolution)
Not everyone has access to either high-speed or unlimited internet, and this can expose them to some unplanned expenses.
Or that it must be indicated that the gif is larger than some specified limit.

    Think about this. ;)
