There's something i read about the black soldiers fighting for the British who, after the war was `over`, were being threatened with a return to bondage by Congress, much to Washington's distaste. The British commanding general, not happy with the thought of sending his men back into slavery, said, basically, `fuck you; we've got more soldiers than you do right now, so if you want to force the issue, bring it on.`
Discretion was the better part of valour and Washington convinced Congress to back off. Some of the freed slaves joined the Royal Navy or went to Canada, but the vast majority settled in Harlem.
