Top water frogs work well here early in the a.m. and late in the evening for large mouth bass. Here's one of my favorite lures:

Caught many off of spinner baits - fun to fish with. I had my favorite open face reel stolen :( that I used to use with them. You fish in lakes or rivers?

Rattle traps are nice too. I miss fishing as much as I used to. I just don't go as much anymore. Hard to have 2 hobbies and be okay at both - for me anyway.

I dont get out as much as I used to either but, I have some pretty good "small water" nearby for quick fixes. Smaller, overlooked streams can be great places. Of course I'll fish bigger waters (fresh and salt) when time allows.

Sorry to hear about the spinning reel loss. Look into Pflueger for your replacement, or Penn

I live on a golf course that has a few lakes on it - very good for bream. I take my son with a ultra light bait caster is about all I do anymore. It's fun to find them on bed, we never keep them - just catch and release for the fun of it. I used to live on a lake that was loaded with large mouth bass that hardly anyone fished - it was awsome. Because it was remote just about any lure would work because the fish hadn't seen it yet.

Large mouth will eat just about anything if they're hungry enough. I've even used dog food before... but then, we were pretty drunk at the time. :)

I am, hopefully he still has it. I can't believe I didn't save it - that's so unlike me. I am after all a person that deals with recovery of data.

Do you think the images will still be there when it comes back up?

I was up in Wisconsin with a friend at a little pair of lakes out in the middle of nowhere. The lakes were connected by a little stream about 100 feet lond and just a little wider than a small fishing boat. There was a bridge that went over it. From the bridge you could look down and see the bass just sort of hovering in the current, waiting for food to get swept along. One morning we were standing on the bridge and it occured to us that maybe we could just put any old thing on the end of a line and drop it in front of the fish to see if they'd eat it. We didn't have worms or the like, but we did have dog food. Worked like a charm. We had bass and eggs for breakfast. :D

River posted a link to the pcx blog in that fascist thread that sid made. Apparently he's moving some of his operation because he had part of his site down in Houston. He said he's moving it to L.A. I imagine it will all come back up once he's made the transition. The last time his site went down and came back up, everything reappeared.

Corn works for trout like that but it's illegal as well. The best thing i've ever used for bass is live Catalpa worms. If you can find a Catalpa tree you'll most likely find worms. They're easy to climb - we used to absolutely fill the boat when we got lucky enough to find them.

This is what they look like in case you've never heard of them - ugly little things.

I have no idea if that shit was legal or not. We were 18 and drunk. Legalities weren't really a priority at 6:30 in the morning. ;)

That definitely looks like something a fish might find tasty. I doubt we have catalpa trees here, but I could be wrong. We have every other kind of tree in this town. Imported of course.

For live bait, minnows are first choice for bass here. Some might use the above mentioned dog food for catfish.

Minnows for crappie and chicken livers for catfish here. Also crickets are very good for crappie. Damn, you people are making me want to fish instead of golf today.
