    It's not just you. Penthouse started bleeding money in the late 90s when they began featuring hardcore pictorials. A lot of newsstands refused to carry them and their subscription numbers actually fell.

    A new company purchased Penthouse a few years ago and opted to reduce the explicit content in order to reach out to fans that had left and trying to bring in the audience that appreciated Playboy and Perfect 10 style pictorials instead.
