I had the nephew, so it was tiring.

We had a movie marathon - Aliens, Terminator, T2, T3, S.W.A.T., Alien Nation, all of which he'd never seen and knew nothing about, beyond the vague broadstrokes.

It was fascinating to watch the Terminator series vicariously through completely `virgin` eyes.

We had a nice trip to the beach. It was overcast the 1st 2 days but very nice the last. Relaxed around the pool friday and golfed Saturday.

Good for you - I've got a very busy week lined up  especially tomorrow or we would have stayed longer.

azz wished me `Happy Thanksgiving` this morning.

Which left me slightly nonplussed, not being American and all.

When exactly is that this year?

As to overcast, we had what was probably the last warm, clear sun of the year.

It's the last Thursday in November - so this year it will be on the 27th. Azz was probably just messin with you - Thanksgiving is totally an American thing.

We've still got a good month or so of warm weather. Highs will be in the 70's F for about that much longer. It was in the 80'sF at the beach.

    I figured. Fucking fazz.

Way up here :)mrgreen:) it's one long spiral into winter from about...well, now.

But they have been suggesting a warm Christmas for Northern Europe. Annoyingly.

    *sigh*

I haven't seen Christmas snow, proper, two foot plus drift, snow for such a long time.

Last snow i enjoyed was June last year. In New Zealand.

Years ago we used to get snow 2 or 3 times a year - not anymore. I hate it too - I love the snow. They say it's because of the global warming - not sure but it sucks. None of my kids (oldest one is 12) have yet to see more than a dusting.

It could be global warming; modern human society has had a negative impact on the planetary eco-system, and anyone that denies that is deluding themselves. Or making money. Or running for office. High office.

But it's also possible it's a cyclical planetary phenomenon. It warmed up at the end of the 19th Century and the 18th Century. Not to this degree, but it happened.

I'm of an opinion that the movement of our planet, all the planets, the moons, general cosmic shit alternately warms or cools our planet a certain amount, but nicely balanced throughout the centuries to allow us to evolve. We've kinda fucked up that balance.

    Ironic, really.

I keep toying with this idea of taking my nephew away for the summer break next year, take him to New Zealand for four or six weeks. He'd experience about as wider a perspective of the world as you can get before falling off the planet, and he'd see and experience proper snow.

All I can say for certain is that the weather has changed here every since El Nino. It's warmer all year long that what it used to be - more friggin humidity too. Also we've had far less precipitation - weather it be rain or snow.

Sounds like a nice trip - that's a long time though. Would be easy to get tired of each other and not enjoy it as much. How long does it take you to get there?

24 hour flight, but 36 with the time change.

I think we'd be cool; we're very alike. Hence the `mini-me` tag.

Ah, El Nino; i have this persistent memory of Venice Beach in LA, big sand dunes piled up to guard against it. I always enjoy watching anything filmed along Venice Beach during that period, because they were always careful to shoot it in such a way that you couldn't see this honking great dunes.

I say 24. It's 12-ish to the dogleg, be it Singpore, Kuala Lumpar or Bangkok, then 12-ish down to Auckland, sometimes stopping in Oz on the way down, dependent on airline.

It's a slog. But it's worth it.

WOW - count me out on the 24 hours. We took the wife's grandmother this past weeken, I was about ready to blow my head off before it was over. She's 81 y/o and almost senile. Asked the same questions over and over - I could've killed my wife for asking her to go.

After Funky - how goes it?

Yeah, it's a bit trippy. You get pretty punch drunk, especially if, like me, you find it difficult to sleep on planes.

Although i did meet this lovely girl going in the same direction last time. Actually, we kind of clapped eyes at Kings Cross station in London, before catching the Tube out to Heathrow. In KL, we got to talking and found out we were both going on to Auckland.

Alice. Lovely girl. Lot of fun.
