    It's best explained thusly;

The English expect the whole world to speak English and the French expect the whole world to speak French and the reason why the French are so much of a pain in the world's collective arse is because the whole world speaks English.

I "chav" pronounced with a hard "ch" sound? Been meaning to ask that. I may popularize the word here. :)

There's a mini-version of that happening in Canada.

Then there's the whole cheese eating surrender monkeys thing.

Which is funny in an abstract American way but somewhat more pointed and infuriating from our perspective.

How do you expect us to feel when Paris survives destruction through surrender, twice, lest it be damaged, whilst London and much of the south of England got flattened because we wouldn't ever surrender?

There are many "America Invades Iraq; French Surrender" jokes. TheOnion.com has fun with that occasionally.

That should probably read: "France Surrenders."

    Yep

I was there when Paris ATC announced they would be speaking in English from now on, as it's the international air language. Some no-mark Quebec minister bitch commented, publically, that it wasn't very French.

    Even the French hate Quebec.

It's weird though; Montreal, whilst in Quebec, is still a happily mixed city. However, Quebec City is a fucking nightmare.

Most Canadians i know are pissed off that everything, everywhere, in Canada has to be in English and French, whilst the same does not apply within Quebec.

But they can't let it just `go` because it would cleave Canada in two. And don't the Quebecois know it, greedy, ungrateful fucks and their dead language.

So that would be a little like Pearl Harbor being bombed and Canada saying "you win."

Many of my ex in-laws live in suburban Toronto, Canada. They always called the Quebecois the "Frenchies." (With "tone" in their voices.)

It's funny; we respect the Germans. They tried twice. (Al Murray gag)

But it's true. We respect the Germans. We've always had better relations with them, over and above the Royal connections. Hell, before World War I, we were more naturally aligned with the Germans than the French.

    And still are. ;)

Losing to Germany in football is bad. But losing to France is catastrophic.

Part of the reason why we celebrated so much about winning the 2012 Olympics was because we beat Paris.

Shit, we expected it to be Paris, and when they read London, even i cheered.

Although, i had an instant inkling we'd snaked it when the girl who handed the card to the Olympics suit smiled a little bit. It was in Singapore and i think they prefer us to the French. ;)

Benefits of Empire past, Commonwealth and friendship today.

But, come to think of it, since the elder ex in-laws spoke only Italian to each other, they didn't complain much.

    It's totally different, really.

I mean, the Canadians fight. They're a lot like us; slow to anger, but don't actually get them angry.

Meanwhile, (sorry Salty), George Bush and company have eliminated so much respect for America by other countries, I hope we are forgiven when he's gone!

America really is a good country. Just a misguided government for about 8 years. :(

Speaking of, was reading the reviews of the final debate.

All over bar the shouting; most of the networks seem to have given it to Obama and he's got something like a 15 point lead.

Hopefully this will be reflected come November 4th.
