Does this require some special codec?

 

No, it's just an .avi file. K-lite Codec Pack or VLC media player is enough to play it.

This file was encoded with an h.264 encoder and WILL NOT work with just K-Lite Mega codec pack installed (unless the user installs and configures ffdshow). You can view it in KMPlayer or VLC, but unless you have an H264 decoder installed (most/all of them are not free), you cannot view it as a directshow/VFW file (WMP, MPC, etc.) - and K-Lite DOES NOT have this codec - it has a generic version of the AVC x264 library. You could also install CoreAVC (about $10 or so) to view H264 content.

The above are several reasons that most folks do not use the AVI container with H264 video encoding...

So, KMPlayer or VLC for viewing...

I have re-upped the caps .

The file works fine with K-Lite codec pack installed. There is no fussing required. I use K-Lite codec pack for playing anything & everything & I check & play all my video files before I upload.
So no worrying folks it plays fine with K-Lite.

I think you mis-understood the point of my earlier post. Sorry to hork up your thread, but the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack does not include a native H264 codec - it runs the ffdshow library (if it is installed when K-Lite is installed the first time) or it can run CoreAVC (if initially installed). You probably did this (installed / configured ffdshow and/or CoreAVC) when you installed K-Lite.

Personally, I run K-Lite, and I *cannot* get this file to play in directshow/VFW players (WMP, MPC, etc.). And, if my searches on google are any indication, I'm not the only one who can't get certain H264 files to play in this manner.

The point here being, playing back H264 content can be tricky, even for experienced users. Just google "H264 playback" or some such terms on google, and you'll see the problems people experience.

As already stated before, this file plays absolutely fine in KMPlayer and VLC.

Maybe the version you are using of K-Lite codec is old. See the latest one has H264 codec :mrgreen:

And I am able to play this video in both WMP & MPC
