    Wow, that was bad fly :p

    Danish name = Danmark
    Dan = some king
    Mark = Danish for field
    Danmark = Dan's fields.

    lol

    Seriously though, I'm a gamer, and when people ask where I come from, and I say Denmark, the are absolutely clueless about where it is.

    I thought it was named after the Dani (later Danes), who also became the first Vikings.

    Hmm. Wikipedia claims both origins are possible.

    I'd say to respond "Hello? Hamlet?", but nobody knows decent drama over here anymore. I doubt even Bohr or Hans Christian Anderson would get much recognition (much less von Trier or Kiergegaard), though the Little Mermaid or the Emperor's New Clothes would.

    I thought "United States" meant "We kicked England's ass", and "of America" meant "twice".

    ;)

    Do the Danes follow newly expatriated families much? e.g. does Viggo Mortenson get a Danish following, or is he basically considered an American?

    Oh man...when he was nominated for an Oscar it was in all the newspapers, magazines, and he was interviewed several times on several channels...

    I was just trying to name Danish people that Americans might have heard of, off the top of my head. Could've been worse, I guess, I could've said Knud Rasmussen and Brigitte Nielson.
