    Well, the money always goes somewhere. But with the real estate market being shit, I am sure much of the money was loss that way as that is the major way banks make money.

    When banks say they're losing money they're not actually losing hard currency. They're losing equity on real estate when property values plunge. They're losing percieved value when stock valuations drop. They lose in the same way on commodoties they've invested in when per barrel prices drop on oil, or price per pound goes down on hogs, or per bushell prices decline on corn and wheat. the 'money they speak of is all amorphous, just numbers in a ledger. It's all on paper, it's not money you can put in your pocket and buy stuff with at the grocery store.
