Remakes/sequels are a cop-out though, I guess. I think their potential is underrated--Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back, Toy Story II, Goldfinger, Terminator II, Aliens, Bride of Frankenstein, etc. There are some really great sequels out there. And some remakes, like the Thomas Crown Affair, are much better than the originals.

But it's a little unfair. Still, the Fan, Space Jam, Cutting Edge, Legend of Bagger Vance, Necessary Roughness. That's 5 really atrociously horrible sports movies without talking about sequels/remakes.

Hate is a silly word, especially when applied to people you've never met. Despise, pity, look down on, consider them and their beliefs irrelevant in the 21st Century, but probably not hate.

Now, Manchester United on the other hand.........

That was directed at myself, not anyone else--picking Caddyshack II or Rollerball (or Rocky V or whatever) is just too easy a cop-out for me to go with as I did.

Did you know they're making a Tron 2? Not a remake; a full on sequel. :D

Godfather II was as good, if not better, than the original.

Fine line. Still, I'm not into that either.

Personally I think Aliens is way overrated and Alien is much, much better than it, but a lot of people disagree. They tend to like Bladerunner, too, which makes me question their judgement.

I get your point but I don't think of hate as being silly at all. There is some serious hatred in this country rooted in racism that still runs deep, particularly in the southern states. It's born of ignorance and prejudice I just can't fathom. Those fuckin clowns in the pointy white hoods may look and be silly, but the shit they believe, and their enmity and animosity toward those they believe to be inferior (now there's irony for you) I take very seriously.

I'm of the argument that Aliens and Alien shouldn't be considered in the same genre. Sure, sequel and everything, but not really.

Alien was an out and out horror film, `killer` stalking innocents and not so innocent. That it was in outer space was not the point.

Aliens is an action movie, a shoot 'em up for want of a better term.

So, it's not superior to Alien, because you can't really compare the two.

I prefer Aliens because i don't like horror films.

I agree with the "different genres" thing, but I think Alien is a very good horror film and Aliens is a mediocre-to-bad action film, so even though I'm not a fan of horror (with a few exceptions, like Silence of the Lambs or the Shining) and I love action, I still find Alien to be a much, much better movie.

But as I intimated, I think Bladerunner is a terrible film so perhaps my personal foibles aren't to be trusted...

I've only seen Alien Resurrection, and it was the last movie of a movie marathon in the cinemas so I fell asleep. Haven't seen the first 3, so unsurprisingly the one I watched made little sense :D

I liked Aliens better because of the points you just made. Well put.

Horror films rarely horrify me. I live in a country where people get killed randomly everyday by psychotic nitwits that think they're being tough and cool, and worship a culture bent on violence and destruction. It's truly insane, and that's horrifying. :?

Also, the 3rd and 4th ones are a bit of a mess. Still interesting in some ways (Fincher and Jeunet are great directors) but not really all that good overall (see Fight Club or the City of the Lost Children/Delicatessan to catch them at their peak, or Se7en or Amelie for other flawed-but-much-better-than-Alien 3/4 films.).
